The National (Indoor) Lacrosse League has cancelled the 2008 season, due to their Players Association rejecting the latest collective bargaining proposal.
This news is most likely very disheartening for the players. Unlike the overpaid crybabies of more well-known leagues, like the MLB, NBA, NFL and NHL, most of the players who play lacrosse professionally barely make a "living" wage. Most players have day jobs, and pay their own way to travel, in order to play the games on weekends. And some of the guys travel quite a distance to get there. Owners can't always be blamed here either, because some teams break even (or lose money).
Once play resumes, if you ever get the opportunity to see an indoor lacrosse game of the NLL, you'll definitely be entertained, like I am in watching the Portland Lumberjax play. It's worth witnessing!
