Most teams trade for certain reasons. Whether it's gaining young talent, dumping salary, or gearing up for a playoff push. The crazy part here is that neither of these teams are anywhere near the playoffs... like for the next 5 years. And neither of them really needs to dump salary. In fact, they both desperately need young talent. So how are they the ones who trade with each other? It hardly makes sense.
Anyway... with the way both of these franchises work, both teams will lose this trade. I have no idea how that will happen, but there's no other way.
The Pirates just got better: Hanranhan can set-up Capps or vice versa...Milledge can be a stud if he plays to his potential...remember the Pirates are only 6 games out of first.
It's basically a wash, two bad teams swapping top prospects. I'd give the edge to the Nats though because I think Morgan will be a more productive player than Milledge in the bigs.
The Nats gave up on Milledge in April, and Hanrahan has been a human white flag. I guess for that they'll take Morgan's ability to play center and his name and another random arm.
The Pirates just got better: Hanranhan can set-up Capps or vice versa...Milledge can be a stud if he plays to his potential...remember the Pirates are only 6 games out of first.
They're only 6 games out of first, but you're giving them way too much credit. Take it from a fan who's had to deal with this team's s*** since 1993. The Pirates have not gotten any better until these guys prove their worth, case closed.
Lastings Milledge was suppose to be the future for the Mets when he came into the big leagues but quickly fell because he didnt live up to his potential or did he try to improve his game. The Nationals dealt two starters, Ryan Church and Brian Schneider, for a guy who played 7 games for them, missing time because of numerous injuries. I cant see him suddenly living up to his potential on a different team.
I think the Nationals actually improved with trade. Milledge has been an engima and Hanrahan has been awful. Nyjer Morgan has had a pretty good first half for the Pirates and brings some speed to the top of the Nationals lineup. The Nationals also get Sean Burnett, who was a former #1 pick for the Pirates in 2000 who is a pretty effective middle reliever/
I am one of the biggest Pirates fans you'll ever see, and I don't even wanna watch this team play anymore until the ownership proves to me that they're committed to putting a winner on the field every night. This trade is garbage for the Pirates. Lastings Milledge is easily expendable from every team, and has yet to live up to his potential. If he didn't do it in other cities, he sure as heck won't live up to his full potential for the Pirates. I am sick and tired of the same old song and dance, and until Bob Nutting proves to me otherwise, this is nothing but another waste of time trade that's going to make him look like the complete jacka$$ he really is.
Alan, I'm assuming you're referring to Ohlendorf who is pitching tonight, and doing a great job. I gotta hijack this for a second. I decided to torture myself and watch a couple innings and saw the Bucs score a run on something that you rarely see. Brandon Moss struck out, but the ball got away from Soto on a wild pitch. Moss made it to first base while Sanchez got across the plate because Soto's throw went 5-hole on Lilly.
