All pardons if you didn't stay up to watch the end of the Rockies-Phillies game. Even those who go to bed before 11 on the West Coast would have probably missed the pivotal play, to say nothing of the hardy souls on the East Coast who had to stay up well past 2:00 to see Brad Lidge close the game out. Playoff baseball: it’s awesome for insomniacs!
I might stay up for baseball until 2 a.m. in the morning if I thought the game might end at that point...but with my luck I would be up until 4:30 a.m. while the game was in the 14th inning and the pitcher was looking to the runner on 1st base around 12 times.....sorry. Baseball is slow. I love it. But its slow.

It probably would have gone until then had the umpire's got the cal on Utley in the top of the ninth. Not only did the ball hit hime when he bunted, but he was clearly out at first according to ESPN....I'm just saying!
Can't totally blame the ump on this one. Tough call to make and Utley sold it well, credit to him for running it out, you hardly see that.
I was listening to sports radio, and one fan called in making a good point...the umps are trained to first see where the ball lands (in fair or foul territory). He could have easily been focused on that and it was such a bang-bang play that it would have been hard to catch the ball just grazing his leg.
Lucky me, I was at the game, freezing, and wasn't going anywhere. First, it was a foul ball. Then, the throw beat him to the bag. Lastly, he didn't run outside the line and should have been called out for interference. But now the series and the Rockies' season is over...
I'd be all for some kind of red-flag challenge, and, I don't know, if you lose, the other teams gets an automatic out or base on balls.

Er, they don't have to run outside the line. Whoever told you that is horribly misinformed.
