Oregon loses to Stanford 51-42
As further proof that no one really knows how good anyone is this year, Stanford beats Oregon 51-42.
Most people are unaware that arguably the best college running back in the country plays for Stanford. Well, after today, I think they're aware.

Toby Gerhart of Stanford rushed for a ridiculous 223 yards and three touchdowns to help the Cardinal hold on in shootout in Palo Alto against the Oregon Ducks.

Oregon rallied with two late touchdowns to cut a 20-point lead down to six, but Stanford recovered an onside kick with 2:38 to go and tacked on a field goal with 11 seconds left.

This loss, in reality, doesn't really change much in the Pac-10. Oregon has only one loss in the conference and remains in the driver's seat to go to the Rose Bowl. However, if they lose again, lord only knows what'll happen and who would actually go to the Rose Bowl.

But what's fascinating is that one week ago, Oregon looked like arguably the best team in the country, as they utterly annihilated USC. Then this week they lose to a seemingly minor roadblock in Stanford.

Make no mistake, even though USC has had a down year, and Cal was overrated, the Pac-10 is as strong this year as I've ever seen it. They'll likely have 5 teams in the top 25 this next week and even the bottom of the conference teams are incredibly tough outs - with wins against USC and Arizona to their credit.

so much for an iowa/oregon rose bowl. the game should be listed as TBA vs TBA until kickoff, with the way this season is going.

So.... I guess Boise State deserves to be in the BCS title game, right?

I have yet to see ANY dominant team in the NCAA this season at ALL!  Even undefeated Florida, Alabama, and Texas have looked very vulnerable at times!  And in NO WAY do I believe Boise State or TCU could beat any of the Top ranked teams either. This is WHY the NCAA needs a playoff system. Any one of the 2 loss or better teams this season has an argument to play in a BCS Bowl game or even the NC Game!

I don't think they can win either, but have to push for TCU to at least get a shot.

Great... this is exactly what the voters were hoping for (other than a BSU and Cincy loss). Now they can use the "Oregon's not that strong" mentality to knock BSU down a peg.

On the radio here people were going crazy bashing the Ducks for the loss...and I love it!!!  Still though they probably are the best shot to get to the Rose Bowl as well as Iowa I think.

This just goes to show you that you have to come to play every week and you cant rest on what you did the week before.

I love it when the ESPN conventional wisdom is proven wrong on the field.

It's too bad Stanford's defense isn't a little better.  I hope they get a bowl game against another exciting team.  I guess Harbaugh deserved that new designer bathroom the booster built for him.

These powerhouse teams that schedule out of conference cupcakes need to quit, it's causing them to get too fatheaded and start fading against conference competition.
