The Magic have matched the Dallas Mavericks' offer for big man Marcin Gortat, so he will not be leaving Orlando. Bad news for the Mavs, since they don't appear to have a Plan B.

That was pretty unexpected of Orlando. I'm sure Gortat isn't too keen on playing second fiddle to Howard again this year, but I for one am ecstatic we held onto him.

 I think it was real surprising for the Mavs too b/c honestly I don't know what in the world they are going to do. I believe Bass is a restricted free agent so unless they pull someone else out of air they might be rolling him out as center.

Thats what is confusing me. Orlando was going to let Gortat to go the Mavs and take a run at Bass. They must have realized Bass wasn't attainable and stayed with the safe option?

yes, *sigh* exactly.  I thought at least with Gortat, we weren't giving him a gigantic deal, so even if he's average, it's not like we're giving him huge money to suck.

 I am actually wrong - I was looking around and it sounds like we have let Bass go - not for sure though. If that is the case then we are really screwed.

I'm 99.99% sure that Bass is already gone. Dunno what the mavs are gonna do now. Perhaps they can dig up Roy Tarpley?
