I'm not a fan of Manu Ginobili. Nor am I a fan of PETA. So it figures that the one time Manu Ginobili actually does something awesome, PETA comes around and tries to reprimand him for it.
"To bludgeon a 4-ounce animal to death, it takes either a small man or a totally unthinking one—with no respect or consideration for lives humbler than his own. This is a time when athletes in particular need to be on their best behavior around any animal and show that they have brains and a heart, not just reactionary brawn.
Bats always try to avoid contact with humans, and there are plenty of easy ways to keep bats out of a basketball arena (or your home). We hope that the next time someone's life is on the line, Manu Ginobili will take just a few seconds to think before he acts."
There are a few things wrong here.
1) He did not bludgeon that animal. He swatted at it once. One could even make the case that it was self-defense.
2) Manu is 6'6" , 210 lb. That is not a small man. He's a pretty large man, really.
3) Bats do not ALWAYS try to avoid contact with humans. If that were the case, this bat would not have been within arm's reach of Mr. Ginobili. Fact.
Just throwing that out there. This is the only badass thing that Manu Ginobili has ever done in his life. Let's not rain on his parade.
