Packers File Tampering Charges Against Minnesota Vikings For Talking To Brett Favre

Packers File Tampering Charges Against Minnesota Vikings For Talking To Brett Favre Photo100% here writing, and thanks to kantwistaye for passing this news along. If you hate the writing in this post, direct your hate mail to me, not him.

So, despite all the Favre hysteria of late, we were actually heading towards a brick wall in terms of where this fiasco was going. Favre is mad at the Packers, the Packers can't do what he wants, we get a continual stalemate, and probably more horrible Fox News interviews. Ugh.

But no longer. Now it's getting interesting. REAL interesting.

The Packers have filed tampering charges with the league office against the Minnesota Vikings for alleged communication with Favre, who is still technically a member of the Packers.

Apparently the Vikings were informed late last week that the allegation is that Favre has had inappropriate dialogue with Minnesota offensive coordinator Darrell Bevell. Bevell is a close friend of Favre's and was also Favre's QB coach with the Packers from '03 to '05.

According to Jay Glazer, who seemingly breaks every huge NFL story, here are the additional details:
League sources say the Vikings vehemently denied any wrongdoing and are awaiting the league's next step in the process. The Packers, meanwhile, have supplied the league with their version of wrongdoing.

Should the league find the Vikings guilty of tampering, they could lose draft picks and/or face fines.
So what does this do to Favre? Well, in all honesty, I'd say it hurts him immensely. If you're a Green Bay fan, you can't be happy to hear that Favre has been going behind your team's back to talk to the Vikings, can you? It makes Favre start to look like a mercenary, rather than a classy guy who should have come out and said "You know what guys, I made a mistake. It's not your fault I retired. Will you take me back?"

Even if you're not a Packers fan, this incident definitely makes Favre look pretty slimy. Especially considering how much he trashed the Packers the last two days on Fox News. Just to recap, he's been bashing the Pack while stabbing them in the back.

I mean, at this point, I'm starting to wonder why anyone likes this guy.

"Despite the wave of speculation, Vikings head coach Brad Childress insists that Tarvaris Jackson is his guy."

Childress would shiv Jackson if it meant he could get Favre, or any top flight QB.

+1 thumbs upSee, I would say that absurd comes first, then ugly... we should probably figure out how this works that way we know what word to use when Brett asks the comish for re-instatement because thats when the poop will hit the fan.

+3 thumbs upGreen Bay should just do nothing and let Farve just sit out. Pretend like he doesn't exist and let Farve just whine and complain about it.

+2 thumbs upProblem is that Brett actually holds a lot of power.  If he asks for reinstatement the Packers have 24 hours to put him on the roster or release him.  Unfortunately, I think that move is inevitably coming soon.

Great.  More coverage of this drama.  It's getting to the point where I'm going to miss all the "OH TOM BRADY HE'S SO DREAMY" crap that infests the New England sports media.  It's only mid-July and I have a feeling for the next several months it's going to be All Favre All the Time.

Now, does this really surprise anyone? Its always been about Favre. Now if this is true, which I believe it is, it just proves that point. Now if I was GB I would say go ahead and request reinstatement and then tell him to get that clipboard ready. Do you think with his ego he would want to do that? Then right before the trade deadline ship him to a crappy team.

ARE YOU KIDDING ME? The only reason this saga is continuing is because people keep writing uninformed speculation..... like this.
Favre talking to someone he's been friends with for years -- is a non-issue.  The Vikings already publicly stated they aren't interested in him (if you read a little website called ESPN.COM) .... who cares that he talked to him?  He obviously doesn't have any friends in the staff at the Packers anymore -- they are too busy trying to screw him out of playing football.

And for someone who is trashing the Fox interview.. you certainly didn't watch it... because you said "It makes Favre start to look like a mercenary, rather than a classy guy who should have come out and said "You know what guys, I made a mistake. It's not your fault I retired. Will you take me back?""
Which is the most BS thing I've heard considering he repeatedly said that VERBATIM in the interview.
Michael Jordan retired three times and Chicago didn't turn their back on him.... especially for a player of Aaron Rodgers caliber.... Moved on or not -- Brett repeatedly has stated he made a mistake retiring too early... and that he understands if they want to move on -- but the PACKERS should do the classy thing and release him.
Why won't they?  Because they know he can play and if he goes anywhere in their division they'll get smoked.  Period.
Oh
