Pau Gasol Has a Torn Hamstring! Uh-Oh!
Pau Gasol appears to have a tear in his hamstring, and is not expected to play on the Lakers' two-game road trip to Oklahoma City and Houston this week. He has practiced just once in the past three weeks, after which he felt sore and needed to shut things down again.

A sonogram showed a possible tear in his right hamstring and he underwent a more a more complex MRI exam on Monday. Those results should be in on Tuesday.

Gasol is traveling with the Lakers for their games in Oklahoma City on Tuesday and in Houston on Wednesday but will not play. "We don’t expect him to play on this trip," Lakers spokesman John Black said. Gasol, has missed all 3 of the Lakers' regular season games and their last six exhibition games.

That's not good.  I'd rather have him miss time now though than later.  We really need him later on though.  Our offense is much better him playing.

So true...I say let him sit a month  or so...Bad "Hammys" can lead to Knee injuries and mess with your feet because your shifting you weight around. Pau has had a broken left foot in the past, and with a right hamstring tear, Pau wil be putting stress on that left foot!!

He needs prayers for strength and wellness.  The team needs him and hope that he gets better.  Pau is a super player and we relay our good wishes.

Fortunately for the Lakers they have Odom who is stepping up in his absence - and Bynum is playing how they expected him to play. They will be just fine with Gasol out.

I'd rather have Pau rest that injury than play through it. Odom has done a good job stepping up in his absence.

They should have put an end to the Summer Euro playing crap. Sucks for them

All the Laker players are good.  Hope everybody will be healthy! This group is really very brotherly and very serious in playing the games.  God Bless!

Quit being so negative man...A mild tear can heal over a 30-45 days rest easily. Broken legs can heal in a month if repaired correctly and the bones fuse together properly!

So what. He is a Laker and should put his priorities in order. Come to training camp healthy. Use the summer to rest.

Just like Kobe did the last 2 years....All those Summer Games didn't seem to mess with Kobe's hand too much. He reached the Finals 2 times in a row after playing all Summer too. What are you talking about, "SO WHAT"? Was Kobe putting his priorities in order in 07 and 08? Get real man....

If Koby came in to camp hurt from off season play I would say the same thing. I contend that if a player in any pro team sport has the obligation to come into camp healthy and rested for the upcoming season. Contracts now do have activity limitations (snow boarding Vladie) maybe they should add more restrictions. Like, no contact sports XX Months before camp starts, so that the body can heal and be rested. What do you think?

I like what you said on the 1st posting about, "using the summer to rest" and "showing up to camp healthy". I'm not sure if I would want to see it in contracts, but you are right that owners should be worried about players competing in the Summer because the owners pay a lot of $$$$$ for players to compete during the regular season.

I was just saying, Pau was playing for his country just like Kobe was in 07 and 08. I don't want to fault Pau for his hamstring tear because he was being loyal to his homeland.

I do agree with you though that players should be healthy and ready to go once training camp starts in October.

His country should be his priority, not his employer. Kobe has said basically that same thing in the past when he's said it's the ultimate honor to play for your country and winning the gold medal is more important and special than winning a NBA title.

I agree that the players should have the freedom to play off season, but it would be better if it had a cut-off date, say six weeks, so that any injuries can be identified and if necessary, treatment can start, and the rest for all would be helpful to have the players in the best condition at the beginning or the season.

Reports are that he's not playing tonight and that makes me happy. Like others have said, I would ease him back very slowly and take care of the injury now before it gets aggravated and he misses significant time down the stretch.

With all three of our 7 footers hurt I am thankful we have a light schedule for the start of the season. The bench must keep preforming well.

I won't say that the Lakers can and will win the championship without Gasol.  I will say that during the regular season, they can hold their own pretty much without anyone except Kobi.  Gasol's early absence has it benefits.  Others get more pt, for example, Artest.  What does that mean.  It means that another style will surface from the Lakers to add to their already immense repetoir.  Artest will get better with pt and more comfortable with Phil Jackson's philosophy.  In the triangle, an aware and focused Artest can be a nightmare for opposing teams and players.  Players like Artest, these are the type that thrives in such an offense.  The team will be better with an Artest that is in rhythym with the rest of the team, starters and bench.  I can only see Gasol's injury as a bonus.  He will be out only 4 to 6 weeks.  The rest he needs.  He'll be strong going down the stretch and sharp by playoffs and players like Artest will be sharp.  That is not good for the rest of the west and very likely the east.

I agree with you that Lakers need Pou to have a championship team. I don't agree that missing the beginning of the season is good for the team. If it was we would not see Phil start Kobe or Fisher, who certainly use the rest. What coaches do is reduce the playing time so he can see how the others fit in. I still think all players have an obligation to the team to come into camp ready to play.

I think you can look at it both ways. His missed playing time hurts the team not only because they're missing an outstanding player, but also because he doesn't get the game experience with the guys that he'll be playing with in the playoffs. It can be looked at positively though, because the more time he misses, the fresher he'll be later in the season.

So it's OK for Kobe to have to play with a groin injury while Pou recovers from an injury that should not happened. I do not expect the Lakers to go undefeated, but a loss is a loss when ever it happen. Pou, get healthy and start playing basketball, the team needs you.
