Few details are known so far, but a CBS affiliate in Augusta, GA is reporting that boxer Paul Williams has been in a motorcycle crash and is paralyzed from the waist down.
Williams is a former WBO light middleweight champion, and a two-time WBO welterweight champ.
He was scheduled to fight Saul Alvarez on September 15 for the WBC light middleweight title in Las Vegas, but that will obviously be cancelled as Williams works on recovering.
It's most likely a tragic ending to what had been an excellent career. Williams is 41-2, with 27 of his wins coming via knockout.
Our hopes and prayers are with Williams as he works through his recovery, and we'll keep you posted if anything else develops.
