Pudge and four other Rangers file for Free Agency
READ MORE:
ARLINGTON -- Catcher Ivan Rodriguez was one of five Rangers who filed for free agency on Thursday, the first day eligible players could file.

Also filing were outfielders Hank Blalock and Marlon Byrd and pitchers Eddie Guardado and Joaquin Benoit. Guardado has talked about retiring.

I am hoping that Pudge will return to the team and they use Salty as trade bait. I'd rather see Pudge and Taylor Teagarden as the primary catcher. Salty just hasn't provided an offensive production ever since he came over from Atlanta in the Mark Teixeira trade. Pudge has said he'd like to retire as a Ranger but it's probably gonna come down to how much money he asks for.

As for Blalock and Byrd, that's really up in the air. Blalock was mostly a DH this past year and I think offensively he got better. He struck out a lot less than in previous seasons and he stayed healthy. Byrd has been great both offensively and defensively; I'd also like to see him return.

As for Guardado and Benoit, I don't even know why we even resigned Guardado last season. His 87 mph fastball just doesn't cut it. He should retire. And Benoit was certainly missed last season in the bullpen but will he stay healthy and return to form next season? I doubt it.

Too bad I'm outta respect or I'd give you one for this article.

Pudge can stay or go, either way won't bother me. He's done his bit for king and country, as they say. I definitely think they need to keep Salty, he's just going to keep getting better and they don't have any other better prospect options they can bring up. He got hurt last year, if he's healthy I think rangers fans are going to be very happy with him.

See ya later Blalock. Gotta keep Byrd though, he's got a great swing for that ballpark.

Easy Eddie, adios! Benoit? I think the rangers can get someone better after spring training starts.

i'm outta respect too dammit! but i don't know i've been disappointed with Salty especially offensive wise. i think Max Ramirez is very good. He has a lot more "pop" than Salty.

Yeah, but Salty is the better defensive option, I think. And his offense will come around when he's healthy.

i hope so. i like him and all it's just that when he came over from ATL the talked about him like he was "the next big thing" so he's been a bust for me. i really want Pudge to stay though.

I love it if Pudge did stay.. .but if some other team will pay him more $$$ I won't begrudge him for taking it.

If Pudge Rodriguez, wants to play for 2 or 3 more years, let him. He's 38, and in surprisingly good shape. I dont know if Texas can afford him or not. We'll see.

The last time Pudge played in Texas, he was incredibly strong.  I wonder why that was?  He looks a lot smaller these days.

Players move way too much in the MLB. Are they trying to be like the NBA?
