Raiders passed on Michael Crabtree because of Chaz Schilens, not Darrius Heyward-Bey
Why did the Raiders pass on Michael Crabtree in the draft? It actually has a lot more to do with Chaz Schilens than Darrius Heyward-Bey.
Everyone is still wondering what the hell the Raiders were doing by drafting Darrius Heyward-Bey over Michael Crabtree. Well, looking at it in more detail, it seems the Raiders chose Bey not because they believed he was better than Crabtree, but instead because they believe they already have a Crabtree-style receiver in Chaz Schilens.

Who's Chaz Schilens? Well, just read the article and find out.

If they believe they already have a Crabtree-like wide out, why did they even need Heyward-Bey?  The Raiders a hopelessly incompetent franchise.

Ok, so lets look at it. There are people who are drafted each year too high others that are not drafted and even more that are not drafted in the round that was projected or the number they were projected to draft. Does it seem odd that a team pick a receiver that could have gone in the second maybe third round in the first round maybe so. However, look at it this way, YOU DON'T KNOW WHAT HAPPENED THAT MADE OAKLAND NOT WANT TO TAKE CRABTREE. There were more teams that passed on Crabtree then just Oakland. No one is talking about them. Crabtree could be a started and even a pro-bowler his first year, but that doesn't mean a team should be him. If anyone watched the draft, when the Raiders passed him up he looked relieved not to go to their squad. A good receiver can turn a team around he could have done that. But, he didn't want to go there, why should they pick him? Think about. They got a person they felt was best suited for them. Wait until the season and the one after that and the one after that. Darrius Heyward-Bey may be one of the best in the league by then.

My problem with the whole situation is this: Players get drafted too high all the time (See F Jones last year over Mendenhall and Chris Johnson). But if you liked him that much (and the SS in the 2nd round), why not trade down and add more picks? They could have traded down to 17 or so and added Heyward-Bey plus a third rounder at the worst. With all the trades on draft day, they drafted players high but didn't add any extra picks that they obviously could use this or next year.

Although I think the raiders should have picked Crabtree, I agree it prob is not the best pick for them. I think Crabtree is going to have a real big EGO and Al Davis Although stupid, doesn't want to have a show boat hot shot who thinks he is too good for a team. Now this is being said not knowing how Crabtree's personality is, just an assumption. Chaz Schilens is a really good reciever with great potential and we all know there is no room for 2 great recievers on one team if one of them has a inflated EGO.

Fans like you are a disservice to your team, and your fellow Raiders fans.

By attempting to justify terrible moves made by the organization, you let the team know that it's ok to constantly fail, because people like you will still believe that they are doing a great job.

The Patriots made some moves this year that I thought were questionable, and I said so. This is because I believe that you can't just look at their relative success and assume every move they make is brilliant.

Your team's upper management, on the other hand, has a terrible track record recently in all of their personnel moves. There's no way in Hell that you should be trying to justify them and tell people to "stop hating on the Raiders.

You should WANT people to hate on the Raiders right now. YOU should be hating on the Raiders, since they suck so terribly bad. When you sit here and try to tell us why their moves are so great, you're basically saying that you are happy with the mediocrity that they have provided for you.

If you don't care, I don't care. But don't come in here and try to tell us why we shouldn't hate on your failure of a team. That's just crazy.

Disservice, what you don't know me. The Raiders are the Raiders, and about being a Fan you will support your team regardless. Even if you they are not going to be good or win you will root for them. Don't be so sensitive and take it as I am talking to you. I am now, get real, support your team even in there rough times.

I stated in my earlier post, MICHEAL CRABTREE DIDN’T WANT TO GO TO OAKLAND. WHY SHOULD THEY PICK HIM? ANSWER THAT QUESTION (ALL OF YOU KNOW IT ALLS).

I support my team, do I think that they could have pick someone else YES, I already stated that. Read my post again. Read it and understand it. Don’t take one thing and run with it, READ the entire post.

1) Calvin Johnson is an outstanding receiver, so the Lions are all set.
2) The Chiefs just drafted Dwayne Bowe, he's their future at that position.
3) The Rams need a WR, but have many other needs as well, and they addressed that with their pick.
4) It doesn't matter how many teams passed on Crabtree. What matters is that the Raiders were the first team to pass on him AND draft a different WR. That makes them a very different case than the rest of them.

Every team has needs that get addressed. The Raiders addressed their needs the way they felt best. No one knows why they passed on Crabtree, these are our thoughts and beliefs. My thing is this, if he did not make an impression that he wanted to be there why would they take him. Did you watch the entire draft? Did it look like he wanted to go there? To me it didn't and most people that I know it didn't. I am a Texas Boi, I think that Crabtree is gonna be good, but I don't believe that they should have picked him if they felt that they would have wasted a pick on him. If he held out or acted badly to be traded they lost that pick.

One thing that all of us needs to understand is that the draft is not as live as we think it it is. They know who they want, they make decisions and let the players know. Its that simple.

If he voiced to you that he would not play for you would you pick him? I wouldn't, and again I am a Texas Boi and I like TT and I think that he is awesome. I am pissed that he caught the winning pass against my team but it is what it is.

Again, I am a Raiders fan, even if they don't make the best decisions I will support them. That's my NFL team. It has been and it will be. I will never jump off when they are losing and stay when they are winning, that's the mark of a true team fan.

Let's just see how things pan out, if Darrius Heyward-Bey is the next Randy Moss in two-three years all of this would be for nothing and everyone will be like they made a right choice. If he's not, then he's not and they made a bad choice. I like to stay positive so I am gonna shoot for the best. Because that's my team, and I did a little research on Darrius Heyward-Bey and found that he's  not as bad as everyone thinks.

I'm not saying that they SHOULD have taken Crabtree. And really, I'm not saying that Heyward-Bey doesn't have a chance to be a great WR. I'm just saying that they messed up by taking him this early. By all indications, they could have drafted him with the 20th pick (or so), so they should have traded down to do so. If they did that, they would still be able to get their man, but could also pick up a draft pick or two in the process.

Im a Raiders fan and I've seen Schilens play and he's really good and has a lot of talent besides he's exactly like Crabtree so why not go pick up a long ball threat to spread the offense?

Even if Al Davis was right, hes still ignorant. Bey would have been available into the mid 20's.
