Yahoo Sports is reporting that Rajon Rondo and the Boston Celtics agreed to a 5 year, $55 million extension early on Monday. The team and Rondo had to reach an agreement by Monday or else Rondo would have became a restricted free agent next summer.

With all of the other stars on the Celtics being over 30, locking up Rondo and maybe patching things up between him and GM Danny Ainge, was very important for the future of the Celtics.

1	As every team, yes, the Celtics will have to rebuild because they are aging. What signing Rondo does is make it attractive for free agents to come to Boston because with Rondo running the show on the court, good things will happen.

I'm not sure about hall of fame caliber. But until Rondo learns to control his temper, he will never be able effectively lead a team. He gets away with that mess now because of the veterans surrounding him. During playoff time, the better teams will make a conscious effort to provoke him and take him out of his game. He actually should have been suspended a game during the Bulls' series last year.
