Red Sox are interested in signing John Lackey

The Red Sox are among the teams interested in free agent starting pitcher John Lackey. If they signed him, their rotation could potentially include Jon Lester, Josh Beckett, Lackey, Clay Buchholz, Daisuke Matsuzaka and Tim Wakefield. That's a bit crowded, but it also gives them the option of moving one of them in a trade.

Many teams have expressed interest in Buchholz, and he might be one of the pieces needed to acquire someone like Adrian Gonzalez, in whom the Sox have been rumored to be interested for a while. Could signing Lackey be the first step in several moves designed to get someone like Gonzalez?

It's all speculation at this point, but if the Sox were to get Lackey, it would be a huge coup either way.
