Referee makes horrible call during Steelers-Browns game
This was a first down? Interesting call, refs.

Bad calls happen all the time. We've come to expect them. When it happens in the course of an action-filled NFL game, it's just the lumps that you have to take. But when a call like this is so blatantly obvious, and there's no excuse for it.

This was on a Steelers 4th down, and the referee called it a first down. I realize that it could be a weird camera angle, but is there really any way that this could really be a first down? That clearly should have been the Browns' ball. Just saying.

Even Kramer in the game thread was saying that call made no sense.

I'm sorry. Thats not a first down. My Browns got totally bamboozled. That photo is so obvious, my 2 yr old nephew could've made that call.

It would be a conspiracy, then, because I saw this article posted already on other sites from other writers.  No one's saying the Steelers are getting MORE preferential treatment, it's just that this particular call looks pretty crazy.  It would have led to the same speculation if it had happened in any other game

How is this baiting?  He posted an article on one bad call with a pic to back it up.  Is this the only call that went against the Browns?  No I didn't watch this game, but if there were that many other bad calls against the Steelers, I'm sure there were others against the Browns.

I think that is quite a reach to be calling that baiting.

Every game has some bad calls.

It looks like a first down to me.

The referee is dyslexic.  He thought the chain was on the other side of the stick.

i wonder if thats the same guy who called the ball foul in the yankee angels game??

There's a difference between missing a holding call in the middle of a chaotic play where everyone's running at full speed, and looking at 2-3 inches on the chains and saying THOSE INCHES DO NOT EXIST! First down!

I knew it. I knew someone would take offense to this and assume it was Steeler bashing.

You are ridiculous. This isn't a bad call. It's ignorance to the rules. It's not a matter of opinion or judgement; it's an established rule that can be reviewed and is based on fact. Fact: the ball did not reach the first down marker on the ball spot that was established by the official. That's indisputable. It's different than all the "bad calls" you witnessed. Nobody cares about the common missed holding calls or some of the poor judgement calls that happen in EVERY FRIKIN' GAME. Every team has bad calls against them and bad calls for them. T

This is absurd, and has nothing to do with the fact that it's the Pittsburgh Steelers. I think the only way you, and the other Pittsburgh fans that think everyone is out to get them, will be satisfied is if the name Pittsburgh Steelers was omitted from every article, because if that name is in there, well of course the only intent of an article is to bait the fans and definetely doesn't examine a ridiculous "call" that probably has never happened before. Geez.

The TD call they overturned was the result of them screwing up the measurement.

At least it was as bad as the 2006 Playoffs. All they did this time was help the Steelers beat the Browns, not give them a Super Bowl.

you got to be kidding me, this only happens once in a thousand times. They're better than MLB umpires, I'm a Yankee fan and I thought that was a bad call at second with the neighborhood play, even though Aybar touched the bag every time prior to that  play.

Another skitzo steeler fan. Go take your meds and calm down, the Steelers won.  Even if they needed the refs help to beat the Browns.

I didn't see this live.... did they challenge the call? Or were they not able because they were out of timeouts or something?

Bad call okay... but who cares cause as much as these are 2 of my fav teams from the AFC...the Browns got mauled which sucked.  Just in case anyone cares NFC: Eagles Pack AFC: Steelers Browns

I'm gonna assume you're talking about the TD a couple plays later that they took away from Hines Ward.  That play actually never even should've happened.  It didn't matter in the outcome of the game, but the ball is clearly short of the stick.  I gave you another PQ for throwing a tantrum over an article that is in no attempt baiting.  The ball was short, and the Steelers somehow still kept the ball, which led to the TD that was taken away from Ward.  Tomlin should've kicked the FG right then and there instead of going for it, but decided to be gutsy and go for it, got short, and somehow got a lucky break.

yes, thats the funny part. They looked at the same photo you see and deamed it past the sticks.
