Rob Parker is live on ESPN right now, saying his remarks were intended to be a shot at "levity" after a bad day...bad choice for Rob, who is very good on ESPN. I think bringing Marinelli's daughter into it was out of line.
I think Marinelli hiring his son-in-law, who is obviously a terrible defensive coordinator, was out of line.

Seriously, I was ready to agree with you about this whole thing. I was ready to vehemently defend Parker, too. But I had only read about the question itself, so the image I conjured in my head was one of the press corps rustling in their seats as Marinelli told everyone, "I'll take your questions," only to have Parker lead off with that seemingly harmless rib. I figured it was intended to be an icebreaker. But then I watched the video of the press conference, and it was an unfunny, classless jab in just about every way. It's one of those things like dropping a good f-bomb in the middle of a joke -- if you time it right, it can be hilarious, but if you use it upon being at a loss for words, it comes off awkwardly. If Parker really wanted to be buddy-buddy, he would've taken a decidedly different tone with his line of questioning. Instead, he badgered Marinelli relentlessly about the nepotism thing -- perhaps validly -- and then tried to smooth everything over when it was obviously time to just shut up. I wouldn't go as far as to call for Parker's job or anything, but he handled the whole thing rather poorly. He won't be on Last Comic Standing anytime soon. If that show's even around anymore.

From what I've heard, Parker has asked him the same question pretty much every week, and this was the first time he did it like this.

If that's the case, then maybe Marinelli was just over it. The whole thing could be a running inside joke that a handful of Detroit beat writers are privy to, for all I know. I can't say I've watched too many of Marinelli's press conferences this year.

The bottom line is, the intent of the comment had nothing to do with Marinelli's daughter. Everyone knows it. Marinelli is just being a pansy about it and acting like he cares about Parker bringing up his daughter because he has no real response. He knows it was a dumb hire, but doesn't have the balls to make the right move. So instead of manning up and doing what needs to be done, he's acting all butt-hurt because he knows he can get the sympathy vote fom d-bags like Terry Bradshaw and Michael Strahan on TV, as well as half the media.
The thing is, THIS TEAM IS F***ED UP. EVERYTHING they do needs to be questioned. Parker is absolutely right for continuously calling him out on this, and Marinelli is 100% wrong for feeding him the same BS answer every week. The fans deserve an answer, and Marinelli (and everyone else involved with this team) deserves to be fired.
I can't vouch for Parker's overall integrity as a journalist, or for the quality of his work, but I agree with his stance on this issue 100%, and I have no problems whatsoever with him being a jerk to Marinelli. He had it coming.
