Ryne Sandberg says that Sammy Sosa doesn't belong in the Hall of Fame
Hall of Famer and former teammate Ryne Sandberg says Sosa's not worthy of induction
19
In Sandberg's words:
"They use the word 'integrity' in describing a Hall of Famer in the logo of the Hall of Fame, and I think there are gonna be quite a few players that are not going to get in. It's been evident with the sportswriters who vote them in, with what they've done with Mark McGwire getting in the 20 percent range. We have some other players coming up like [Rafael] Palmeiro coming up soon, and it'll be up to the sportswriters to speak loud and clear about that. I don't see any of those guys getting in."

Some would claim Sandberg doesn't really belong in the Hall either, such as myself.

This might rankle a few people, but one of the few alleged steroid users that could still get in the Hall is Barry Bonds.  Players like McGwire and Sosa CREATED Hall of Fame careers using PEDs while Barry ENHANCED (no pun intended) a career already headed to the HOF.

It will certainly be interesting to see how the writers feel.

If he wasn't a middle infielder, he wouldn't be.

How's this idea?  Instead of letting the writers vote, let the living (obviously) members of the HOF place the vote. After all, it's really their place and they should have a say as to whether they should be joined by the PED Club.  This way, the writers' bias isn't even a factor.

i really believe that anyone with the steroid cloud hanging over their head should not be allowed in.....

He definitely was not a "first ballot" Hall-of-Famer, but if you take away the inflated numbers of the steroid era, and if you count his work as a defensive player, I think his numbers look better.

Shocked that someone would badmouth Sammy Sosa's HOF-worthiness!!

Good thing he doesn't know English, or he may be offended by this article.

There are going to be about 15 years where nobody is going to get elected. If we are going to punish the hitters for cheating we should reward some of the present day pitchers who are on the bubble (Mike Mussina, Pedro Martinez, John Smoltz) for putting up good numbers when the players they faced were juicing.

I don't think Smoltz or Pedro are even remotely on the bubble. Pedro is just as qualified as Sandy Koufax, and Smoltz is an absolute lock for the Hall. Mussina... not quite. And remember... pitchers were juicing just as much as hitters were. Not saying that these guys were, but we don't really know. And I would tend to believe that Pedro WAS juicing, to be honest.

I don't think so - I think there will be people getting in every year. This will eventually pass...but I bat about .120 in predictions....you can call me the Chris Davis of predictions.

I mentioned this before in response to another article. Here we are letting past and present Roid users in other words [ cheaters ] into the hall of fame.
Wow.  So, what ever happened to my suggestion Pete " Charlie Hustle " Rose being inducted?
I stood firm on my comment then and still stand firm on this one.
I continue to think that he should be given the chance of Redemption after what I see here.
Come on, guys.
Take away some of the stats before & after using roids and some of these guys don`t match up to Pete`s natural ability at his best.
Speaking as an Hispanic woman, to see one of us to get inducted into the Hall of Fame is quite a honor, but for all the right reasons and with no blemishes on their records.
Am I the only one who thinks that Pete Rose gets forgiven and inducted? Like to see what some of you`s out there think.

I think that in this day and age some of the ball players have made up thier own meaning of the word "integrity", Which is " I won't tell if you don't'.  Cheating is cheating no matter how you did it and the Hall of Fame  should not be brought down to be anything  but what it was put there to represent, the pride of baseball.

Pete certainly deserves (based on stats alone) to be inducted...as does Shoeless Joe Jackson.  Having said that, I think it really should be up to the living members of the HOF to decide whether or not to let him in.

I agree. Although it was left for me both of them would have been in there already. I am sure there are a few out there, that also deserves that spot based on there stats. Thanks for the comment. I am glad to know someone out there agrees with me.
