The Phillies should return all eight regulars in their attempt to reach a third consecutive World Series in 2010. The Yankees have three key free agents, but their big-money superstars are locked up for at least another year. The biggest offseason challenge facing each team:
Phillies: Improve the bullpen Brad Lidge isn't going anywhere, but the rest of the bullpen should undergo an overhaul. Expect Philadelphia to shop for a closer as insurance for Lidge. Possibilities: Fernando Rodney, Bobby Jenks.
Yankees: Reload in left field and at DH. Johnny Damon and Hideki Matsui are headed for free agency. New York likely will choose one: Damon, who still can play left field, or Matsui, who has more power. Free agent Andy Pettitte is likely to return or retire.
