Shane Victorino ejected by Ed Rapuano for reacting to a bad call from center field
In Ed Rapuano's world, throwing your hands up over a bad pitch is an ejection. Even if you're out in center field, and no one else saw it.
READ MORE:
Umpire Ed Rapuano ejected Shane Victorino from last night's game, for throwing his arms up in disgust at one of Rapuano's pitch calls. Victorino was in center field at the time. The MLB.com has the video. The funny part is that Jimmy Rollins did the same exact thing, and didn't get ejected.

I agree that players need to respect the calls, but this unchecked authority of the umpires is unacceptable. Hopefully Rapuano gets reprimanded for that.

What's next.. throwing the fans out for shouting at the umps, like little league??
Maybe if the umpires would watch the game and quit looking for "disrespect" there might be less of it.
And now I will be pq'd by every high school and LL ump on the Q...thank you.

It looked to me like Rapuano wasn't in a good mood either! It was in the seventh inning, it's a hot day and things get on your nerves. Both Rapuano and Victorino got upset. At least Rapuano walked away from Victorino. And as it used to be said, "Holy Cow, did you see that?"

I would say Bud Selig should check the umpires' power, but then we'd have tied baseball games. =(.

No doubt about it.  The umpires are the aggressors in this at least half the time now.  Luckily, this is the last year of the umpires' contract, so there is a chance that some will not be asked back.

As in anything , if you go looking for "IT" (In this case, disrespect)  you will find it.  Especially if one is in a negative frame of mind.

Even funnier was the ejection of Cubs manager Lou Pinella after arguing a missed double play call with Umpire Chris Guccione.  As a Rockie's fan i must admit this call was horrible and I am surprised that more coaches and players from both teams weren't ejected during the game because the umpiring was as worse than the Cubs defense.  Sweet Lou was at his best during argument though.  He caught the umpire with quite a bit of saliva during one exchange and then caught on camera throwing at least a dozen f-bombs.

You cant argue strikes or balls. You cant. The phillies were mouthing off all game about those calls and he got fed up with it. Victorino needs to think twice before arguing about an unarguable topic or even disputing it. Victorino knew why he got tossed he even gave apologies after the game. So no this guy doesnt need to get suspended for Victorino and most of the philies arguing calls you cant argue. Yall want these umps to be perfect yet no have replay because you want to conserve human error. pick one.

I totally agree Victorino committed a cardinal sin by arguing balls and strikes. Suspending Rapuano? Dont be ridiculous! MLB knows better not to suspend umps. Phillie fans, put your diapers on and complain all you want! It is what it is!

I watched the replay of the call and I am in no way a Phillies fan (Go Rays!) but he should not have been thrown out for raising his hands. Something needs to be done about these umpires, they are starting to decide more games than ever. Let the guys play!!!

yes he should have because you cant openly dispute balls or strikes. period. end of story. he did it and got tossed. Dont jump around in the outfield to get attention and maybe you wont get tossed.

Players openly dispute balls and strikes all the time...only when the ump has had enough or he is sooo wrong he's embarrassed do they get thrown out for it...

Did i ever say players get thrown out only because the ump has had enough? Sure they do it but not to the extent of being 250-300 feet away and in the outfield. Victorino simply has no business flailing his arms and for you to try to justify that as an ok thing to do is just ludicrous. He deserved to be thrown out of the game and he knew it. The only people who dont know are philly fans and a handful of people including you. If you actually WATCHED the entire game you'd see that most of the philly players kept opening their mouths about calls they disagreed with. It wasnt just an isolated incident.

Ludicrous is for a man..who is suppose to be calling balls and strikes to be policing centerfielders arm actions. I did WATCH and the ump was pathetic most of the game... You keep quoting the letter of the law (you can't argue balls and strikes) All I stated was it happens all the time in reality. Put your chest protector down for a minute and realize that umpires screw up as much or more than the players.

They do screw up but that doesnt justify a constant bitch fest the entire day. Ump got fed up and if you honestly think he should be suspended for that then im happy you arent in charge of the mlb or any baseball league. THE PHIL'S MANAGER EVEN SAW HIS PARADE. THE MANAGER noticed it and it just so happens the center field is RIGHT behind the pitcher in the umps view. its not like he's looking at the right or left fielder or guys in the bullpen because thats how you are treating it. Id eject the guy for thinking he has a case when he is 300 feet away because thats just stupid. Put down the bat and realize pushing the ump all day has consequences. You are the only guy that doesnt realize that. Even Victorino realized that. Its making you look a little dumb because all you are saying is "everyone who disagrees is probably an ump(which is a terrible assumption and indicates that you know people WILL disagree with you) and people do it all the time." Dont call someone out for repeating when you are doing it yourself

Professional baseball is played by players and fans come to watch the players play, not the umpires. What purpose of the umpire's did it serve to throw out the CF? None, but his own vanity. I'll wait for your next shout down.

you have yet to make a valid point instead you are circling around your anti ump attitude and it is a little stupid. there is a reason they are there and have the power to throw people out. watch the game again. make one valid point that isnt so closed minded. he let the other players go when they argued balls and strikes like he should have. heres a memo DONT ANNOY THE UMP he has that power for a reason now stop bitching and get over it.

That's your whole point?..don't annoy the umpire. You'll go far. Thanks for sharing that.

david you have yet to make a valid point like ive stated prior. dont act like im not making any sense because the facts are the facts and you are the only guy arguing this situation like it shouldnt have happened. I dont want my kids watch some jackass jumping around making a fool of himself because he disagrees with a pitch when he is 250-300 FEET AWAY. its obnoxious. And for you to wonder why the ump was looking out there well its STRAIGHT AHEAD RIGHT BEHIND THE PITCHER why would he not look at that while the pitcher has the ball? im sorry but you have nothing to back you up cept a pitiful "umps arent the game b.s." Well news flash yes they are thats why there isnt a replay on strikes and balls, thats why you arent supposed to argue them because it not something they can overturn.
