Starting lineup payrolls in the League Championship Series
What do you get when you add the payroll of the Phillies and Dodgers' starting lineups? That's right... the Yankees.
From the Wall Street Journal:

Here are the team payrolls for the players who will actually be taking the field in the League Championship Series. This is the sum of each team's starting hitters, top three starters, setup man, closer and manager*.

TEAM ON-FIELD PAYROLL
New York Yankees $168.9 million
Los Angeles Angels $93.9 million
Philadelphia Phillies $85.4 million
Los Angeles Dodgers $70.7 million

* For the two National League teams, a DH was added (Juan Pierre, Dodgers; Matt Stairs, Phillies)

Congratulations to Dodgers' GM Ned Colletti.  By the salary numbers, and the team's performance, it was a good year for him.

So this means that the Yankees could just play themselves in the World Series

Mmmhmm. If you win the MegaMillions now, you'd be able to pay those salaries... barely.
