Steelers safety Ryan Clark may not be able to suit up in Denver, and it has nothing to do with an on-field injury. 2 years ago when the team traveled to Denver, Clark became ill and was hospitalized. He lost 30 pounds and had to have surgery to remove both his spleen and gall bladder. Clark has the sickle-cell trait, and according to the doctors the high altitude aggravated his condition and caused a very serious blood disorder. He's a key piece of Pittsburgh's defense, but if he's not guaranteed that he can stay healthy with the altitude change, I'd rather be safe than sorry and see him watch the game from the sidelines.
I agree this is going to be a tough game but STEELERs NATION needs him down the stretch and if playing is not good for him he needs to stick this one out.

Excuse? The guy has the trait for sickle-cell, that's no excuse.
Do you realize that there are several players in the NFL that have sickle-cell that still manage to play without it being an excuse? Sickle-cell is prevalant in the US and is even more prevelant in African Americans, so it doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure out that there are likely more guys in the NFL now than just this one who have sickle-cell.
Not to mention but if you go back through the history of the broncos I'm sure you'll find a handful of guys who played their careers there that have (or had) sickle-cell.

He had to have his spleen and gall bladder removed after the last time the Steelers played in Denver. Are you going to tell us surgery is a lame excuse too?

Meh, Sims Jr. had to have is spleen removed and he's fine. What's the big deal? He's played in other games in other places after having said organs removed. I think he could go if he wanted to.
