TBS losing money due to short ALDS series
TBS is losing money, because of all the short divisional series. I almost feel bad for them, but then I remember they brought us Chip Caray.

Out of all 4 of the early series in the MLB playoffs, 3 of them finished in a sweep, and the 4th finished 3-1. So out of 20 possible games, there were only a total of 13 games played. Of course, TBS generally gets better ratings when they have playoff baseball, as opposed to re-runs of 'Everybody Loves Raymond', or whatever "very funny" show they would have used.

But I don't feel bad for them at all. Anyone who hires Chip Caray deserves to lose money.

Once upon a time, I was really good math. And typing. And all things that were required to correctly form that sentence.

I blame the Red Sox grounds crew.

TBS is a joke, they only air Atlanta Braves games in the regular season and all off a sudden they buy the rights to the playoff games, the games should be aired on Fox or something, national television like the NFL.

Ted Turner is a cagey, wiley, insane kinda guy. They lost money, I guess from buying the rights to air the games. Maybe they should have gone for hockey instead.

The only thing good about TBS having the playoffs is their pitch tracking system...

Of course they employ Chip Caray. His dad, Skip, was the Braves play-by-play announcer for umpteen years on TBS. And we all know who his grandfather was. Nepotism reigns supreme.

It was nice when TBS did show all the Braves games. If that were still the case, I could actually watch them on a regular basis from out here in Colorado. As it is, I can't, without paying more than I can or willing to for special TV packages or MLB.tv (which my connection is too slow for). And WGN doesn't show many Cubs games anymore either. Boooo. Those two channels are how I got my baseball education when I was growing up.

I'm OK with the first round being on a cable channel. After all, NBA early rounds are on TNT & ESPN and NHL early rounds are... somewhere. Heck, the Stanley Cup Finals don't even get every game on NBC anymore. Only the almighty NFL gets every single one of its playoff games on network TV.

I don't like the NLCS being on TBS while the ALCS is on Fox. I wonder if that has something to do with the Yankees and Red Sox.... hmmmmm...

I would do almost anything to get any other network than FOX to take the ALCS & WS. Joe Buck I can tolerate. Tim McCarver... f*** me gently with a chainsaw. Could we please please please get them back on NBC and have Bob Costas? It's a small request.

Ah, and let's discuss the extra off days. I just heard that if the World Series-winning team went the distance in all three series, they would have played 19 games-- in 35 days. That's not baseball. You play 19 games in 20-22 days. Obviously in the postseason you've always had the travel days, but still, that means a seven-game series should be nine days tops, a five-game series, seven days. Two years ago, the white-hot Rockies that swept both their NLDS & NLCS then got to cool off for eight days before beginning the World Series, which this year could extend until November 5th-- not allowing for any potential snowouts, of course. The upside for certain teams with all those off days is, of course, that if you simply have two dominant starting pitchers, you could pitch them Games 1, 2, 4, 5, 7. Good 3-5 (especially 4-5) starters become essentially cheerleaders.

TBS does suck for baseball. With the Phillies still in i I wanted to watch the games. Two days in a row, the tv guide lists the games on TBS...but when I turn it on, I get an hour of Paid Programming!!! WTF!! :( At least I got to watch the last 3 innings..

I totally agree with you. This World Series could go later in the year than the 2001 WS, where baseball took a 6 days off in the regular season for the WTC terrorist attacks.

Man, I should really feel horrible about the multi-millionaire's loss of advertising revenue.

But then again, Teddy should feel horrible about totally butchering playoff coverage, hiring awful announcers, and trying to dictate start times in order to make a better profit instead of actually giving fans easy access.

Yeah, I liked that, too.  It would have been nice if the umpires could have called a better strikezone though.  Too many pitches way off the plate were being called strikes.

Ernie Johnson clearly looked like he'd seen a ghost after the end to the Red Sox/Angels Game 3.  They knew the Sox would have won Game 4, and they would have had an exciting 5 game series.  He couldn't hide his disappointment.
