Lovie Smith has some work to do. It's not that a 21-14 loss to the talented Atlanta Falcons is anything to hang one's head about. The way the Bears lost and the memories of a similar Sunday Night meltdown against the Packers this season are troubling, however. The Bears have appeared to be error-prone when the lights shine brightest.
A first-half surge, where the Falcons looked lost, was nullified by a couple of costly picks by Jay Cutler, one in the red zone. The second-half was not much different. Matt Forte fumbled on two plays in a row, and the second one was recovered by the Falcons. If that weren't enough, future Hall-of-Famer, Orlando Pace jumped across the line too early, turning a 4th and 1 into a 4th and 6 in the closing moments (near the Falcons goal-line).
It's not clear if he Bears are a playoff team. Are Lovie Smith's Bears ready for primetime? Much of the season remains, but there is little room for further error in the very competitive NFC. Certainly the Vikings are showing no signs of slowing down.
