The Bears Need to Cut Out Mistakes If They Hope to Make the Playoffs
READ MORE:
NFL
Lovie Smith has some work to do.  It's not that a 21-14 loss to the talented Atlanta Falcons is anything to hang one's head about. The way the Bears lost and the memories of a similar Sunday Night meltdown against the Packers this season are troubling, however.  The Bears have appeared to be error-prone when the lights shine brightest.

A first-half surge, where the Falcons looked lost, was nullified by a couple of costly picks by Jay Cutler, one in the red zone.  The second-half was not much different.  Matt Forte fumbled on two plays in a row, and the second one was recovered by the Falcons.  If that weren't enough, future Hall-of-Famer, Orlando Pace jumped across the line too early, turning a 4th and 1 into a 4th and 6 in the closing moments (near the Falcons goal-line).

It's not clear if he Bears are a playoff team.  Are Lovie Smith's Bears ready for primetime?  Much of the season remains, but there is little room for further error in the very competitive NFC.  Certainly the Vikings are showing no signs of slowing down.

We need to somehow or another get our O line to block and better pass protection.  Every time Forte received the handoff he had a Falcons defender waiting for him!  We cannot block and barely pass protect!  If were gonna make any noise we to get that situation rectified soon.  And our Defense line didn't exactly standout.  I mean I don't think Matt Ryan got his uniform dirty.  He had all day to throw unless we sent a blitz.

Let's get our lines on the ball!!

I still have confidence in these guys, but the penalties and careless turnovers have to stop.  They're too talented to lose because of a lack of discipline.

That final drive was a horrible display of mental fatigue. Dropping back to 2nd and 25 on penalties really hurt that final effort. When they lined up for that fourth and one, they looked defeated.

Penalties and turnovers killed the Bears. The next 4 games are as follows:
10/25 @ Cincinnati
11/1   vs Cleveland
11/ 8  vs Arizona
11/ 15 @ San Francisco
The game against Cleveland is a winnable game. The other 3 is tough. Bears need to win 3 out of 4 or they are in dire straits!

It's a new season and I know it's week 6 but they will become more solidified once they play a few games at home.  I don't know if they will beat Cincy though they should go 2-2 in that stretch.

I've been saying it since he left Denver--Cutler will throw those INT's with frequency.  I don't mean to rub it in after a loss, and I do know that he wasn't responsible for all of the Bear turnovers, but Chicago is getting a taste of the real Cutler.  Great in stretches, but still throws a lot of INT's.  Very close to a Romo-type QB

I think that's fair.  You're always in the game, because he can make the spectacular play.  He can also look erratic, like he did in the 1st half.  I'm still a big fan of his, but it's impossible to ignore the inconsistencies.

It is one game! The bears willbe ok they know what they need to do to keep from beating them selfs!! last night game the bears beat them self with mistakes.Atlanta  is a very good football team. The season is far from over.

That's exactly right.  You can't expect QBs to go INT-less, but you have to wonder as a Bear fan what might be if Cutler was a little more disciplined

Of course it would have all washed away if Pace hadn't jumped (presumably).  Cutler did indeed have them down there for the tie at the end.

The way the Vikes are playing, the Bears only shot is to get a wild card and if they can't beat other NFC teams that could be wild card teams, they won't have tie-breakers, so if they have the same record as the Packers and Falcons, they would just have to stay home during the playoffs.

someone nedds to give orlando pace a hug, then smack him upside his head , what chicago needs is to find some chemistry and use it.

I agree they can pull it off but they are not in sink with each other......god I so want to believe we will get a shot at the wildcard but we need to step it up and fast

sometimes a loss can help a team, maybe this will pull them together as a whole . the defiantly have enough talent to not just get the wild card , the can still win the division . the vikings are not gonna go undefeated.

I'm not a Bears fan but a lot of you guys shouldn't be aiming only for the wild card.  Remember when Favre broke down the stretch last year?  That's always a possibility at this point.  It seems bleak now, but so did things in the AFC East last year and look at what happened.
