Rick Gosselin of the Dallas News makes a pretty solid point about the Packers and Chargers, and the way that they handled the decline of their respective future Hall of Famers.
The Packers have been criticized by some for running Brett Favre out of town a few years ago, but anyone who knows football knows that Aaron Rodgers is the better player, and the Packers definitely made the correct long-term decision.
On the other hand, the Chargers went the opposite way with RB LaDainian Tomlinson. Through the early part of his career, he was one of the best ever to take the field, but now he is showing a real decline, and the Chargers already let a capable replacement (Michael Turner) leave, and they are now stuck with an awkward situation with Tomlinson and Darren Sproles.
I realize that the situations are different, especially since Favre is about 50 years older than LT, but should the Chargers have cut ties with the fan favorite and gone with the younger player, like the Packers did?
