The Contender Final: Patriots' Rodney Harrison says he wouldnt last a round.

In perhaps the greatest bout ever held on ESPN with all Wed-night and Fri-night fights included and any contender series and specials also included, the contender final ended in explosive fashion.

"SPEEDBAG Brian Kenny talked to Pats d-back Rodney Harrison, who gave boxers props. He said he and his wife hit bouts in AC, and said he tried boxing this past offseason. He couldn't last a round in there. You may know that Teddy Atlas has acted as a mentor and motivator to the NY Jets, a Patriots rival. The Jets are having a rough go of it: they are 1-8, while the Pats sit pretty at 9-0. Maybe Teddy can get one of his former clients to whack the Jets around, and help 'em snap out of it.

This was a great fight last night.  Those two guys beat the hell out of each other, and took it.  If you're a boxing fan, catch a replay of it.  Well worth it.

+1 thumbs upI agree, that was a great fight. They threw a bunch of bombs. I was shocked Codrington didnt take a knee after that attack by Bika.

On a side note, I dont think Bika will get anywhere. He already recieved a beating from Calzaghe for his title shot. It's a shame. I think these two guys should rematch each other and hopefully Codrington can box with his head rather than his heart this time.

I do think better Boxers will join in the ranks for the contender. These guys were much better than the bums they had in the first one. (I still think Mora and Manfredo are overrated). But they're still C-level fighters. Hopefully they can get higher ranked and more undefeated fighters next season. Have a bout where somebody's "O" has got to go.

I think your right on most parts but they are b level fighters for sure. They both would make solid undercards and I agree that bika could not beat the top tier guys in 168 but I dont think that calazage laid that much of a woopin I thought bika looked pretty good before that

+1 thumbs upI was pullin for JDon, I really thought he'd be able to get Bika on the canvas early but Bika was a warrior and pummled the young man into submission. While Bika won i agree that he wouldn't fare as well against the top tier of the 168 class. He throws wide looping punches, doesn't utilize the jab and really benefited from JDon's inexperience more than anything else IMO. They both gave a valiant effort and Bika's strength and experience won out but he's not a primetime fighter IMO.

+1 thumbs upI was pulling for the prospect too because we would actually anticipate Jdon's career a little more than Bikas. Bika is an exciting fighter with good punching power but it kind of ends there. A decent straight jab would keep him off balance. JDon had to work his jab and his cross a little more instead of throwing a slugfest against Bika. He kind of boxed Bikas style most of the time and liek Atlas says, "throwing from right field and left field".

If you want a comparison. It's like if Ali would have gone punch for punch against George Foreman. Would it have been exciting? (or more so thanthe rope-n-dope), Yes... But Ali would have been knocked out in brutal fashion.

JDon needs a rematch and he needs to settle down and be a little more defensive. I admire that he boxed with his heart but you dont win matches with hear.. you win them with your head. The heart just helps you survive when you're in trouble- its your last line of defence.
