The Gator haters can shut up now and find something else to whine about.

Of all people, Washaun Ealey is qualified to comment on the Brandon Spikes 'eye gouge' incident... since he's the one whom Spikes was allegedy eye gouging:

That really didn’t matter to me. That’s their decision. He shouldn’t, I think, get suspended at all. We were just out there playing football. I’m pretty sure it goes on back and forth. We probably do it and other teams do too. It’s all football. We’re just out there trying to have fun.

I think he knows more about what went on then any one else out there, and if he is ok with it then so am I.

“It was just a lot of emotion in the game. We were out there fighting. It was a big rivalry game. Everybody was just out there talking trash back and forth. … We were just out there playing football and having fun.”

Eye-gouging has no place in football. If other people are doing it and get caught they should be suspended as well. It is poor sportsmanship. It should be a personal foul (I think it falls under face-masking if there isn't a sperate rule). For anyone to think it is OK is absurd. Hit someone as hard as you can within the rules of the game. It looked completely intentional to me. His hand just didn't get caught in his facemask. If that were the case a penalty is called for and it's over. Suspension is a correct response in this case.

This issue has nothing to do with people "hating" on the Florida Gators.  Brandon Spikes made a dirty play and should be punished for it.  A suspension for a half against Vanderbilt is not exactly what I call "punishment". They could beat Vanderbilt with me starting at linebacker.  Yes the player is okay with it, but does his acceptance of wrong turn the wrong into a right? It doesn't. And if all of these alleged "Gator Haters" really wanted to "hate", they could just speak the simple statement "NFL Success Rate for Florida Gators Quarterbacks" and the rest would take care of itself.

He still attempted to permanently blind another dude.  Its still despicable, its still disgusting, and its still an embarrassment to the University of Florida.  Washaun Ealey's comments do nothing to change that.

Go ahead and say he needs to be suspended, then he meets you in a dark alley.  Ealey is smart.  If Spikes was willing to try to blind you in front of millions of people, imagine what he might do to you if no one else was around.  He is simply trying to keep a bully at bay.

LaGarrette Blount - suspended for season for a punch in the first game of the season
Brandon Spikes - tries to put Washaun Ealey's eyes out, suspended for the half on a decision of Urban Meyer
Ealey was a good sport about it but that's him.  It just seems personal when someone does that (in my opinion)  I have no problem with Florida, they're a good team - it just seems that they get alot of favor from the NCAA   (CORRECTION)

Ealey just said what you are supposed to say and is moving on. It doesn't matter what team he played for, he deserves to be suspended for such a blatant dirty and unsportsmanlike act.

I think you just feel defensive because he plays for Florida.

Let me clarify something when I said I was ok with it I was talking abut the suspension not his actions. If Ealey the guy it happened to is ok with it then it does not make since for me to, and yes that's probably a homer answer but you would be lying if you said you would be different if it was your team.

I know not every one is a Gator hater that statement is geared more towards those who constantly bash the Gators and you know who you are.  "Cough cough Pat cough"

Most of non-Gator fans still see Spike's action as at the least extremely unsportsmanlike. If Ealey is cool with it that's him, but you can hardly fault others for wanting a harsher punishment than was handed down by Coach Meyer.

Well of course he deserves to be suspended no matter what team he's playing for, it doesn't matter that he's on Florida like I said, I have no problem with the team.  It's just kinda strange how the NCAA didn't step in and they just let Urban Meyer make the decision for a half against Vandebilt. but  stuff like this happens all the time, this one just seemed to be clearly visible...

When you say "Gator Hater's", remember, it's not the team we dislike, it's the fans, who have no knowledge of college football outside the State of Florida, or the SEC.
In 29 years of living in Jacksonville, the average Gator fan will not watch any game other than the Gators, or an SEC game, and they do not know how teams from other conferences play, who their players are, or who their coaches are,,,unless they once coached at Florida, like Bob Stoops, or, of course, Steve Spurrier.
They live in SEC-LAND, and just could care less about anything else, and that makes them ignorant, because they refuse to know about anything else, period.
The Gators have had a great run with Urban Meyer, it's just to bad that the fans don't respect teams, coaches, and players from outside the SEC.

I would not call them the average Gator Fan I would call the Band wagon Fans I am a Gator fan First a SEC fan second and a Collage football fan third and not necessarily always in that order and the Gator fans I know many from Jacksonville are the same way I admit there are some really dumb and jacka$$ people out there who call them selves Gator fans but there are just as many of those idiots for every other team out so don't say it's just it's Gator thing. I have known some pretty damn annoying Michigan fans in my time That knew nothing about football outside An Arbor and the Big 10.

What was Ealey supposed to say?  He plays D-1 college football.  Saying Spikes should have been suspended would make him look like a little b**** in the eyes of his peers.

BigTone, you really need to build a bridge and get over it.  You can defend your boy, your coach, and the UF program until the cows some home.  It's not going to change the fact that Spikes committed a bush league play and it's certainly not going to change people's perception of Meyer's questionable disciplinary actions during his tenure in Gainesville.

I'm sure starting yet another thread and shedding more light on the subject will make this matter go away.
