The Jimmy Howard Era will begin in Detroit sooner than you think: Dominik Hasek announces his retirement.

With Hasek retiring, this opens the door for former University of Maine goaltender Jimmy Howard, who has been on the Red Wings' AHL affiliate in Grand Rapids for the last two seasons. In his three years at UMaine, Howard posted GAA's of 2.45, 1.12 and 1.92. With Grand Rapids this season, he went 21-28-2 with a 2.83 GAA and a .907 save percentage in 54 games.
