The Real Reason Jake Locker Stayed in School? The NFL Didn't Think He'd Be a First Rounder

When Jake Locker decided to stay at Washington for his senior season instead of jumping to the NFL, there was a debate whether he was nuts, as "experts" like ESPN's Todd McShay and Mel Kiper had him as a high draft pick, with McShay going as far as to say Locker was at the top of his draft board.

However, it turns out that when Locker was making his decision, he submitted his name to the NFL Collegiate Advisory Committee. Locker didn't receive a first round grade from the committee.

This makes Locker's decision much more understandble (and smart move by him to do his homework). It also serves as a reminder that McShay, Kiper, and their ilk are not always accurate, and really, don't have much accountability. After all, how many mock drafts does Kiper put out every year? In the end, they're not the ones who suffer if they mess up an evaluation, the player does.
