The Red Sox are interested in bringing back Ramirez to roam the outfield for them. No, not THAT Ramirez.
The Red Sox have shown interest in acquiring SS Hanley Ramirez from the Florida Marlins. The Marlins are asking for at least Clay Buchholz and Jacoby Ellsbury in return, and the Red Sox are reportedly interested in using Ramirez in center field. Ramirez came up in the Red Sox farm system, and was dealt to the Marlins in the deal involving Mike Lowell and Josh Beckett.

That's apparently the starting point. I'm not sure how much more the Marlins are asking for, but that's believed to be what they HAVE to get... in addition to some more.

Why would the Sox move him to the outfield?  I'd make Lowrie part of the trade and plug Ramirez into the 4 hole playing short.  If the Sox pull this off it confirms two things: 1.)  Anybody on the Marlins is in play, and 2.) The Sox will win the AL East.

Ramirez isn't a very good defensive SS at all, but is a helluva athlete.  I think the Marlins should put him in CF anyway where he can rely on his athleticism.  That said, the Marlins have him signed to a pretty affordable deal, especially considering everything he provides for them.  They should hold on to him.
