The White Sox have bought out Jermaine Dye's option, making him a free agent
Jermaine Dye should be another top free agent this year, after the White Sox bought out the option on his contract
The White Sox had a $12M option on Jermaine Dye, but decided to buy it out for $950,000 instead of retaining him. Dye had an absolutely terrible second half in 2009, but I'm guessing that his past production will get him a decent deal in this year's weak free agent class, especially considering the fact that the White Sox lineup around him was pretty weak, especially later in the year.

I'm not sure if he'll get multiple years, or the $12M that he could have gotten in Chicago, but I wouldn't be surprised to see him rebound somewhat nicely after a change of scenery.

That's what I was about to ask Rob...isn't he like 67 years old?

Jermaine has been great for the Sox, but he is 35 and they need to retool with younger players at this point. Good Luck to him wherever he ends up!
