Theo Epstein gives Boston Red Sox fans an early Christmas present

The Boston Red Sox and the San Diego Padres have agreed in principle to a deal that will send first basman Adrian Gonzalez to Boston for prospects.  Gonzalez is in an option year on his current contract that will pay him $6.2 million in 2011.  ESPN's Buster Olney tweeted that Gonzalez is headed to Boston to work out a contract extension and to take a physical before the Red Sox officially announce the deal.
