Tim Donaghy's book on NBA corruption "Blowing the Whistle" has been stalled by the NBA
The NBA doesn't want you to read Tim Donaghy's book on the corruption in the league

Deadspin has gotten their hands on a book I'm desperate to read, but I may never get the chance.

Tim Donaghy's book, Blowing the Whistle, about corruption in the NBA, was set to be published next month.

According to Deadspin, about 10 months ago, according to a source, Donaghy shopped the book to Triumph Books, an imprint of Random House. Triumph, the source says, "put forth a huge effort to verify every statement in that book." (Triumph's editorial director, Tom Bast, declined to comment.) Two weeks ago, Blowing the Whistle was ready for printing; 60 Minutes had plans to interview Donaghy in conjunction with the book's publication. Then the NBA came calling. "They came after Random House and threatened a lawsuit," the source says, "and Random House just rolled and decided to not go with it. It's really that simple." To his knowledge, no one at the NBA had actually read the book.

Deadspin says the book falls somewhere between a confessional and an indictment, both of Donaghy's former colleagues and their employer. Most interestingly, it says that Dick Bavetta - long suspected of being David Stern's lackey to force game sevens or extend a series - was exactly that. Donaghy also says that Game 6 of the 2002 Western Conference Finals was fixed - Bavetta said he was told to have it go to a Game 7.

So these are some pretty damaging claims, to say the least. But I'm livid that despite all the fact-checking, Random House is rolling over so easily.

Donaghy is looking for another publisher as we speak, although it's looking increasingly like he may have to publish this thing himself. I just hope I can ultimately read it, because we all know the NBA is rigged.

So Krakauer can publish his tripe about Pat Tillman, but chances are this book won't get to the shelves? Pathetic

Seeing as it's a first-hand account of a day at the office, why wouldn't it be published? I could understand if it was nothing but libel and lies. I wouldn't mind reading said book.

what we need is for david stern to face reality. every year, every player and every coach complains about the officials controlling the game too much.  you need a complete and thorough overhaul. the book may help with that. if the commish was getting 50% of the procededs from the book, it would be on the shelf tomorrow.

The 2002 finals was a sweep...
I think they are talking about 2003 where Dick Bavetta Reffed. Cool thing is, the game six game that was cheated in favor of the Nets was won by the Spurs.

dongahy has no credit with anyone, so even if his story is true I'm sure that the publisher is very concerned that they'd get killed in a court of law.
