Tim Floyd resigns as head coach of USC
The OJ Mayo scandal finally claims Tim Floyd. He has resigned as head coach of USC.
The OJ Mayo scandal has finally claimed USC basketball coach Tim Floyd. Gotta say it looks right now like Floyd should have taken the job at Arizona, which would have made him harder to nail in the Mayo mess.

Anyway, here was his statement in regards to resigning:

"Unfortunately, I no longer feel I can offer the level of enthusiasm to my duties that is deserved by the university, my coaching staff, my players, their families, and the supporters of Southern Cal," the letter said. "I always promised myself and my family that if I ever felt I could no longer give my full enthusiasm to a job, that I should leave it to others who could. I intend to contact my coaching staff and my players in coming days and weeks to tell them how much each of them means to me. I wish the best to USC and to my successor."

Translation: I got caught.

Floyd has been accused of giving money to a man who helped OJ Mayo land with the Trojans. According to a May 12 Yahoo! Sports report, Louis Johnson -- a former confidante of Mayo -- said that Floyd gave Rodney Guillory, an associate of sports agent Bill Duffy, $1,000 (Some estimates are that it was as high as $30,000). Such a payment obviously constitutes a major violation of NCAA rules.

Yes, yes he should've.  I thought he was making the gutsy move when he turned it down.  Turns out it was just the "Tim Floyd" move he was making.

And I know this crap goes on at most all schools, but this one seemed fishy as soon as Mayo signed that Letter of Intent.  Looks like all of the stories and rumors turned out to be true, and the school suffers while Mayo makes his millions playing for the...Grizzlies oh wait, nevermind.

oh well never thought good of him at anytime so is no surprise but if he pursues and accepts a new position there should be some consequences as a fine at least.but who knows for sure the school itself should face the wrath as well do not tell me nobody knew of this come on gimme a break the school is to blame as well don't let them off the hook so easily as well.

Why did USC hire this guy in the first place? Something's fishy in Denmark.

Tim Floyd coached here at Iowa State several years ago, left here to coach the Bulls.  At the time many of us thought he was leaving a golden oppurtunity to make a serious program here.  But he followed the glamour and lour and money of the NBA.  Where he failed miserably then he turned up at USC.  Can't say I am  surprised.  Dissapointed for sure, but not surprised I mean Marcus Fizer came here and played 2 years then became a nothing in the NBA.  So the pattern might have been set, you think he turned down teh Zona job because they wanted a clean program?
