Tim Tebow breaks Herschel Walker's NCAA TD record
Tim Tebow and the Gators took away a win, Herschel Walker's TD record, and Georgia's dignity in one fell swoop.
32
On Saturday, the Florida Gators beat Georgia 41-17, and Tim Tebow beat Herschel Walker's SEC record of career rushing TD's, scoring his 50th just before halftime.

As of late, the Gators have owned UGA, and Tebow in particular has wrecked them. The World's Largest Outdoor Cocktail Party has turned into "Florida beats Georgia... again"... like they've done 17 out of the past 20 times.

Now, Herschel Walker's record is gone, too. Let's see if Georgia can somehow turn this around in the near future. Perhaps next year will be their chance, once Tebow is gone.

What an incredibly ignorant comment. What does his whiteness have to do with anything? And it's "far more impressive regardless of how many years he played"? Really? That's just ridiculous. Don't even pretend you think that sounds smart.

just as a side note...that is an SEC rushing TD record. He has a mere 34 to go before he beats All-Day's record.

"All day" did not face anything like the Defense in the SEC and Tebow is a OB so his feat is more impressive IMHO. Go ahead call me a homer but it's the truth.

Walker did that in 3 years as opposed to four and there are 5 TDs from bowl games that arent on his total list so if the stats were done right tebow still has 3 to go before beating the true record. I really dont get why those TDs didnt count but they leave them out all the time.

It would be easy for the NCAA to retroactively add the bowl stats from past performances to the athletes that earned them.  When Sanders' record was in danger of being broken by Kevin Smith, Smith had the bowl game to break it.  Adding Sanders' bowl game stats to his season rushing record would have been the fair thing to do.  Smith would have had no shot if that had happened.

You are forgetting Tebow is a QB and that he only played in certain situations as a red shirt freshman, sorry still more impressive.

Go ahead and add the 5 TDs he will just surpass that by the end of the season anyway. It doesn't matter

I don't believe he was ever redshirted, he was a true freshman back in 2006 and played sparingly, albeit effectively while Chris Leak was the starting QB.

Tebow was brought in for short yardage and GOAL LINE situations. a fullback type role in 2006. He also played in a spread system that makes it easier for the QB to scramble in. Again 4 years for him with 5 or more td not accounted for when it comes to walkers record. and for walker to do it in three years is more impressive than tebow attempt at it.

Georgia tries  to hype up their fans and players every year with things like the t-shirt  "Black Out" and changing the color of their helmet.  Hell, they've even celebrated as a team in the endzone after a score.  None of it's worked for the most part.  Florida owns that series.

Are you serious Pat. He is a QB not a RB. RB are supposed to rush for for TDs I would certainly hope he could do it in 3, but for a QB who happens to be a slow white boy and not a Mike Vick, Pat White, Vince Young speedster to accomplish it I'm sorry is more impressive.

If you really want to get down to it, you take the amount of time he actually played in 06 and the fact that we are only half way through the season it adds up to about 3 years so there you go. Go ahead and spin it any way you want Pat we all know you are a sports God who's never wrong and knows all. Whatever

he played strictly GOAL LINE SITUATIONS jesus christ you dont think about that cause he's a gator and anything that could take away from your dream boy makes you cry and go all up in arms using bulls#$t reasoning. You of all people have been the biggest homer of the gators in FanIQ. It's incredibly obnoxious and annoying. Anything you say has no merit whatsoever.

Please take a look at this site and get back to me.  Tebow is a great player, but to brush Walker's accomplishments aside is ludicrous.

i gave you a smart but i would remove the td celebration cause that did work and it extended richts coaching career at ga another two years. Hopefully, he or his assistants are gone because id prefer parody in the SECE its more fun.

I just looked it up and you're right, it did work.  I just assumed Florida won the game considering how lopsided the series has been.

First of all I am not brushing off Walkers feats he was amazing. I chimed in on this because all the Gator haters out thee can't just say Tebow got or deserves the record so they come up with this BS that oh Walker did it in 3 years, Walker has 5 more Bowl TDS. Tebow broke the record and by the end he will have shattered it. As a QB I dint care that he was used and put in just to run the ball at the goal line or not he is a QB that is what he is listed as and in my Opinion it's a more impressive feat. You call me a homer but I would feel the same way if it was someone elses QB. A QB rushing for 50+ vs a RB rushing for 50+ to me is just more impressive.

Talk about the pot calling the Kettle black. Yeah I seem to be the only one who has the balls to say what everyone else wants to and to stand up and defend my team against all the Gator haters on the Q. If you don't like it stop bashing my team and I will shut up Until then Deal with it.

Just throwing this out there... it's easier for a QB to get a rushing TD than it is for a RB. When a running back gets the ball, the entire focus of the defense is on him. When a QB has the ball, they still have to cover the WR's and RB's, because he might throw the ball. That means the defense is on their heels a little bit, and a QB can take advantage of that. The mere threat of a pass gives Tebow a few "free" yards on most plays. Just throwing that out there.

You are a homer and you wouldn't feel the same way this feat was achieved by a player from another team.  I can't wait to see Tebow try to play QB in the pros.  None of those gimmick plays he's made a living off of will work.   Also, the 'rah-rah' attitude he displays will be laughed at by established veterans.  I really hope he tries to give a Varsity Blues speech at the next level because that would be hilarious.

Having said all that, Tebow is a GREAT college player and I'm not taking anything away from him.  Quite frankly, I'm just tired of ESPiN and the Florida homers talk about him like he's the second coming of Jesus.

Walker was one of the greatest players to ever play in the SEC and in collage football he is a legend and I will always have the up most respect for him and his accomplishments.

I am as much of a homer as everyone else is for there team. If your team was under the gun you would sound just like me provided you had the guts to stand up and fight and sometimes I admit get things wrong yes it happens and I admit it, so there.

You are right his style of play as it is right now wont work in the NFL I am not disputing that. It's not his nor is it my fault the Media has a man crush on him, but as much as you are tired of hearing about him I am tired of people like Pat who do what ever they can to belittle, make fun of and discredit a kid who has done nothing to deserve it.

Both players accomplishments are amazing, and you can say what you want but to me a QB doing it is more impressive regardless of who he plays for. It seems that I am among the few in here who believes that but just as you are entitled to your opinion I am entitled to mine.

Not everyone who says something against the gators is a "gator hater" i think thats a very lazy way out of arguing or debating on behalf of your team. Its like an atheists answer to everything "there is no god" yet they dont have any sort of logic to back up that theory instead of the same speculation they argue against... now im not calling you an atheist by any means lol but simply stressing the lazy part of it. Personally i liked the gators in the zook era and parts of the spurrier era... i hate urban meyer, tebow and all the punks that speak for florida these days.

i fight for tennessee so i know where you are coming from regarding a certain amount of homerism. i dont defend kiffin all the time though... sometimes he makes mistakes... such as calling out urban meyer for cheating. i dont care about calling out urban meyer part because no one in knoxville is threatened by him but the mistake i cant defend. Or the minor violations i can not defend because he was wrong. It seems if this was ingram you wouldnt even look at this thread. just saying.

The media hype makes it worse. But i've lived in Melbourne, FL and now Jacksonville so its not like i'm ignorant about UF football. The stadium was different, the fans were more knowledgeable, the entire athletic department had a down to earth swagger that was southern pride and ethics. I came up here to Jax and I read all about this Tebow fella, talked to people about him because so many people here in Jax that followed HS football seem to hate him. Out of curiosity I decided to find out. He was homeschool as we know but his parents accepted money from Nease for him to play at a power house football program. It is clearly against the rules and his parents decided to ignore that and accepted the money anyways. So i dislike his parents off the bat. But his emotions are taunting and way to hyped by the University. Example: immortalizing the speech. I dont have any sort of problem in doing that when he has been gone for a few years and you want to honor him. But while he is still there is a little obsessive. Also being in fla i hear all these people that argue that he'll will dominate the NFL and have no come back but "he's a competitor!" well so was ryan leaf and look at him.

Urban Meyer dirty recruits, you hear about it from recruits all the time. This season he has been telling kids that Monte was going to retire after this year. (Saban did it too). Saw it in a Kiffin presser where he said something like "our two biggest rivals have been telling kids that Monte will retire which is not true." In a recent article Monte had to directly set things straight because its gotten that bad. Urban has had those 20 something kids arrested and its a little obnoxious. He runs up the score and thinks its "pay back" to call two timeouts in a game thats over. Also, the AD doesn't know how to develop balls because he schedules HS teams to start off the season when other SEC teams are traveling and playing the pac-10. Meyer has a say in who they play, as does Kiffin, Saban, Spurrier etc. Its a breath of fresh air to hear ESPN bashing CUM. Because karma kicks into gear in time. For the record i cant stand Saban either... couldnt stand him when he coached my favorite team either. Thought he was a slimy too. and he is. Saban is worse if thats worth anything.

First off I believe you believe all of this and that's why you hate them but I have to ask were is the proof. Has anyone filed charges against Nease and his parents any convictions any solid proof at all or is it all here say.
If you think Meyer is the only one who has done shady things when it comes to recruiting and that includes you beloved Kiffin then you are nuts.

Kiffin has done nothing but spread lies about Meyer and the program and talked trash since day one, but6 you believe all that because his holiness said it in a press release give me a break dude. I am sure that some one said you don't want to go to the Vols but I would wager it went more like this Monte is old how long do you really think he is going to coach for you want to risk that. which in all honesty is probably true. The only reason he is coaching there is because it was the only way Lane could get the job.

It is a rivalry game and I don't care that he called time outs to put more points on the board. Miami, UGA and everyone else as much as they want to say they wouldn't do it would not pass on the chance stick it to their rival. If he did it against lets say Charleston Southern then it would be a bitch move.

Everyone else can schedule whoever they want to, lose and end their NCs hopes Florida who is not the only team in the country that does it will schedule to win the BSC you can call it what ever you want I call it smart

Nease got in trouble for it. This comes from former Nease alums. Not across the town rivals that are bitter. But their own people. One of which was a close friend with Tebow. Kiffin has talked trash in public for one. Two Meyer isnt the only one and i stated such in saying Saban is worse than Meyer.

Um UGA didnt call timeouts to stick it to their rival...in fact they never have and neither has Miami. I would like to point out the celebration that current UF fans get all pissy about was displaying joy for their team they were excited and it was a one time thing to get them pumped up. Not a predetermined asshole move by their coach to intentionally shove it in the other teams face. I understand you want to try to justify it but its a reason people hate him whether or not YOU believe other teams would. You act like Florida is some great traditional program that has been a winning one for a century. Florida has been mediocre until the 90's with the beginning of Spurrier.

There's a reason Florida has never been taken seriously in Basketball and i wish Football was the same way. You dont play good schools. Tennessee alone plays Memphis, Gonzaga etc. In football next year we play Oregon. I would rather lose by 4 to a ucla or oregon or cal than play a HS team and blow them out. It leads to little preparation and could bite you in the ass later on down the road. Florida doesnt get respect from other programs fans for that reason. There is no merit in UF qualifying for a NC with such a weak schedule. Hell even Bama played VT and it hurts me to give them props but its well deserved.

The thing with Monte sounds like pure jealousy. There is merit to a press conference statement. The rule thing was at a booster function not a press conference. The "lie" was that it was against the rules.. not the act itself where Meyer was calling Nukeese like an obsessive girlfriend while he knew that he was at UT. Not against the rules but cheap, and yes unethical, disrespectful to the University, and the kid because he's being distracted by his phone going off and not the visit. Kiffin does not do that. He does however back up his trash talking because our two losses against #1 teams were pretty commendable and if you arent threatened by Kiffin and this team then you are a) ignorant b) in denial c) scared so you go into defense mode but you will be in for a shock of a lifetime in years to come if you honestly think that way. I gotta admit I'm impressed by this staff and I never had this expectation to possibly reach 8-4 or to almost beat bama AT bama. Or have a competitive game against FLA AT the swamp. I didnt expect the recruiting classes to improve and pour in some big name talent like Janzen Jackson, Bryce Brown etc. And if you honestly think he was talking trash when he said sing rocky top all night long then you buy into the media too much. He said a second after that clips ends "He (UT AD Mike Hamilton) put me up to that" as he said it with a smile. It was innocent and he was just having fun. But when he said he'll do it in basketball well... its just a fact... 1-7 against UT is BD's record and quite frankly his one class wonder skills will show and itll be 1-8 leaving Knox.

I have a couple of points to make then we can call it quits on this subject for it is clear we have very different views on football.

First I never said we were a school with a long history of winning and tradition. We are in the mitts of building that tradition. I know how bad we used to be back in the 80s which is when I started to watch Gator football.

Second I am not sure why you brought up basketball but anyway. I could really care less if other schools and fans respect us or not we play who we play and when we get to the championship we win I don't need any more merit then that maybe you and others do. The two years in a row we won the Basketball NC we were the best in the land and no one can deny that. If people think we were not the best last year or in 06 then some one should have steeped up and beat us same with this year. As long as we have the currant system we will schedule to win the BCS and the NC any one else who doesn't might be considered ballsy and get respect from other teams and fans but really they are just fools. The ultimate coal is to win championships not gain respect wit the BCS system it makes no since to stack the deck against you, hate the system not the teams who play within it.

Third you honestly think Kiffin would have got the job if his Dad was not part of the deal, no way.
