Tony Parker spurs San Antonio to eighth successive victory
Tony Parker lead the San Antonio Spurs to their eighth consecutive victory following a 108-99 win over the Phoenix Suns on Saturday. The fourth quarter of the action-packed game saw San Antonio Spurs grab a convincing lead over the Phoenix Suns, a lead the visitors weren’t able to overturn before the buzzer.
A blazing hot point-scoring spree from Tony Parker saw him score 11 of his 31 points in the fourth quarter. Manu Ginobili came off the bench to score 20 crucial points. Tiago Splitter’s contribution of 13 points and eight rebounds was also a useful addition for the scoreboard.
The San Antonio Spurs were under the gun to perform without their crown jewel Tim Duncan, who is resting because of a sore left knee, once again. The Spurs were also missing the services of coach Gregg Popovich due to illness. This was the third game Gregg Popovich has been missing from the sidelines.
The Phoenix Suns entered the court guns blazing to acquire a quick lead. However, good defense and turnarounds helped San Antonio Spurs to level the score at 26-26 after the first quarter. The second half of the game was filled with intense action and ended with the Suns in the lead once again.
Even without Gregg Popovich on the sidelines to tell them, San Antonio Spurs knew they had to grab a lead before the fourth quarter began.
The Suns jumped out to a quick lead, although San Antonio had knotted the score at 26-26 after the first quarter. Manu Ginobili was impressive throughout the third quarter. He made two free throws in the dying moments of the third quarter to cut down Phoenix Suns lead to just a point.
In the end, Tony Parker rained points for the San Antonio Spurs. The NBA icon scored 11 points, provided five assists and grabbed four rebounds to show why he was still considered one of the best point guards on the court.
Tony Parker scored seven points in a row during a 10-0 scoring period from the San Antonio Spurs. The victory helped the Spurs record their 16th successive win at home. Their overall record has now improved 36-11.
Meanwhile, Michael Beasley was the strongest performer from the Suns’ end. Michael Beasley scored 25 points with 11 of 16 from shooting. Jared Dudley was also impressive with 10 out of 12 from the field and a total of 23.
