In the UFC's first ever show in the United Arab Emirates, Frankie Edgar shocked the mixed martial arts world by defeating BJ Penn by unanimous decision to win the lightweight championship. 

In the co-main event, Anderson Silva clowned around repeatedly and got the crowd extremely angry at him, but he still won a unanimous decision victory to retain his middleweight championship.

On the undercard, Matt Hughes defeated 43 year old Renzio Gracie, Rafael Dos Anjos defeated Terry Etim by submission, Mark Munoz beat Kendall Grove by ref stoppage and Phil Davis won the opener by submission over Alexander Gustafsson.
