Meyer said Gators defensive coordinator Charlie Strong, whose name has been heavily speculated as a candidate for U of L's vacancy, possesses the right qualities to be a head coach.
Jurich emphasized “character and integrity” as traits he's seeking in a replacement for Steve Kragthorpe, who was fired Saturday following the Cards' 4-8 season.
“A lot of times you may not be the best schematic coach, which I think (Strong is) very good, but the thing that makes Charlie such a special guy is the fact that he has impeccable character and is a great leader,” said Meyer, who spoke in general terms, not about the U of L job specifically. As a Gator fan I would love nothing more then to see Strong stay on as our D coordinator but if this guy is not a head coach somewhere next year something is wrong. He has the Gators ranked #1 among the FBS allowing fewer then 10 Pt's a game and only 223 yards per. This is the 4 time in the past 5 years his squad has been ranked in the top 10. Not to mention the guy is one hell of a recruiter Rivals.com has him in the top 25 of collage recruiters.
Too bad there are no vacancies in the SEC it will be a shame to lose this guy to someone else.
