Is Danica Patrick overrated?
READ MORE:

OK, the answer to that question is obviously yes, so maybe the real question should be: "Is Danica cracking?" Most have seen the incident in Sunday's race with Dan Wheldon and the resulting push Danica gave Wheldon afterwords. Danica and her father both called for Wheldon to be penalized for diving down on Danica. Here is the video.

Now, is Wheldon 100% innocent? No. Did he deserve a penalty though? Absolutely not, and to call for one smacks of entitlement by Danica and her father. The shove at the end of the race was juvenile at best. It was a racing deal, and Danica should have the maturity by now to know that.

Dan Wheldon, for his part, hasn't let up on Danica since the incident. After the race, he said Danica was letting the pressure of not winning getting to her. On PTI yesterday (yes, an IRL driver was on PTI. I still can't believe it.), Wheldon reiterated this, and also said that Danica needs to "stop using her gender as an advantage" and to "stop being a baby."

Whether or not the pressure is causing it, this is not an isolated incident of Danica being whiny and immature. She has talent, but shows it only in flashes, her charge from 17th to 6th this week before the incident being one of them. She certainly has plenty of time to get that first win, but she needs to put it all together first in ability, mechanics, and mental state. Unfortunately, the general public will not give her that luxury anymore.

On the overrated scale, where does Danica rank right now, and what does she have to do to keep from becoming as hated as Michelle Wie?

Danica can drive. She can pass. I like her intensity. She still has a lot to learn. She will win a race someday, but that incident was 50-50 and to be honest I might lean toward her being in the wrong. Wheldon expected her to use the track she had. She didn't because she drove it into the turn too hard.

I agree Weldon should share some blame, but agree 100% with everything he said yesterday on PTI.

Danica Patrick needs to grow up. Her episodes are embarrassing for her and her team.

She's extremely overrated. But I understand the attention given to her by the media. They'd like so badly for her to win (well most) because it'd make a good story. I was rooting for her a year ago, but now that I've seen more of her, too much, that's over. She's asking for the respect of a seasoned veteran with many titles. That, she is not.

Ah whatever. Send me a message when Danica wins ONE......... ONE race.
You Almost got a lot of messages last night. I think TK being in front of her kind of took a little fire from her, because the last thing she needs is an incident with a teammate.

What do you mean just last night? She ALWAYS has a fast car but she cant do anything with it. Last night was decent but not a win. She kind of impressed me last night.......... a little.

The bigger problem was that it was impossible to pass without a draft behind you. Danica had no one behind her, so she wasn't going anywhere.

Well, define "always" She's only run five or six races with Andretti Green. Do you really think she "always" had a fast car when she was with Rahal Letterman?

Uh yeah I do. Her and Buddy Rice both had fast Argent cars if you recall what I do. Hell, Buddy even won an Indy 500 with one of those cars.

Actually, that's not what I said. I won't put words in your mouth either, but it sounds like you think Rahal Letterman is a team that is comparable to Andretti Green. Resource wise, they are far apart.
Look, I don't even care that much. Is she over-rated....sure of course she is, but almost solely because of her gender. I compare her to someone like Casey Mears. He's not overhyped because he's on a team full of superstars (ie Johnson, Gordon) but because she's female she takes press undeservedly away from Kanaan and Franchitti.

Team Rahal Letterman won the Indy 500 in 2005.

It was 2004, the year before Danica arrived.

She had a fast car Sunday, but still hasn't learned enough self control. Example is the 4 wide bumper car restart on lap 99. Sarah laid back out of trouble and got a 7th place finish. Dario, although I like him, was dayum lucky to get through that mess!

Well, the one on Sunday was hardly her fault, Foyt IV was the idiot who created that and Dario shouldn't have made it four-wide

I didn't say it was her fault. That track  doesn't handle four wide racing. Especially when it seems that all their rear ends were all over the place. I didn't see any of them have any patience on that restart.
