Virginia Blows a 100 Percent Safe Lead

While it's not as big of a story as the bubble picture this week, Virginia's epic fail in their 1st round ACC game against Miami deserves some recognition. The Cavaliers blew a 10 point lead in 43 seconds, eventually losing in overtime 69-62. A while back Bill James created a formula to determine when a lead in college basketball is safe. A 10 point lead with 43 seconds left is 100% safe according to James' formula. Oops for Virginia. In statistical terms, this is known as an outlier.
