Virginia Tech's loss to North Carolina cements their non-contender status
Remember when Virginia Tech looked like a National Championship contender? After 2 straight losses, forget about them.
Virginia Tech looked like the best 1-loss team in the country a couple weeks ago. They hung with Alabama as much as anyone, and they had won 5 games in a row. Unfortunately, their conference schedule hasn't exactly been kind to them.

They lost to Georgia Tech last week, and then lost a squeaker to North Carolina on a last-second field goal by Casey Barth. At this point, their National Championship hopes are completely gone, and their hopes of making it to a BCS game at all are in jeopardy as well. It's all but impossible for them to win the ACC Coastal, and their season is now officially a disappointment.

I must disagree, the top/middle teams: GT, Miami, VPI and BC woukld be 8-9 win teams in most conferences and would be 9-10 win teams in the Big East or C-USA, even in he Big 12 or SEC, couldn't you see VPI or Miami winning the Big 12 North or contending in the SEC West, because I could.

The question is does Virginia Tech remember when they looked like a national title contender? The answer of course is no.

Any illusion that VA Tech was a national championship "contender" was eliminated after the first game against Alabama.  Everyone one who saw that game knew that VA Tech was way over-rated and could not make it through the ACC even in a weak year for that conference.
