Washington Wizards owner Abe Pollin died today at the age of 85 of a neurological disease. Pollin has owned the Wizards since 1964, and was the  longest tenured owner in the NBA. Pollin also founded the Washington Capitals before selling to Ted Leonsis in 1999. He moved both teams from the Capital Centre in the suburbs to the Verizon Center in downtown DC in the mid 90's. Pollin built the Verizon Center with his own money, and is given significant credit to helping revitalize downtown Washington through the arena.
