Louis Oosthuizen took advantage of an early tee time to shoot a 5-under 67 to take the lead after the second round of the British Open.  The 27-year-old South African, who had made only one cut in his previous eight majors, was at 12-under 132 and had a five-shot lead, the largest after 36 holes in this major since Bobby Clampett at Royal Troon in 1982.

Oosthuizen's round ended just as fierce winds began, halting play for over an hour.  When play resume, the weather conditions took there toll on the rest of the field.  1st round leader Rory McIIroy had the roughest day of the leaders as the wind played havoc with it seemed every shot he took.  McIIroy finished with an 80 and found himself eleven shots off the lead as the 2nd round ended.  Tiger Woods finished his round at 4-under and eight shots back after a 73 while Phil Mickelson shot a 71, good for even par after two days.

Play resumes Saturday morning
