The whispers are already starting in Los Angeles. Just like two years ago when the Lakers lost to the Celtics in the NBA Finals. It's over. Phil Jackson is done. The dynasty is over...

What a dumb observation. USC has a relatively new bunch of young men this year. Give it a year and with the coaching attitude of Carroll they will be back. Oregon has an outstanding team this year. Outstanding!!!! And in 2010 Carroll and team will be back where they normally are. To say that Carroll's "dynasty" is over is really a comment that is absurd.

In all candor, the average Pac10 supporter could care less about a national title. Our loyalty and excitement is generated by the potential of one of our teams playing and winning in The Rose Bowl. The RB has to be the most thrilling game, year in and year out, that football tradition has. If I had a vote, which I don't, I would get us all back to the five major bowl games determined by winning conference titles. On any given day, an inspired team can beat those that BCS says are the best. It happens every year. Why are we so hung up on this national title junk. Texas, Florida, USC, Oklahoma, etc. can win that title and be knocked off by the team rated well down on the polls and computers a week later. Those of us who recall the magic of the major bowl games will recall the days when people really cared about the game and college football. Those who spend the entire season concerned about which team is #1 or who will win the trophy for being the best player at the end of the season are really missing what the game and the individual team/players are all about. Sports announcers and so-called analysts have really taken us down the path dictated by big bucks. Oh for those cool days of January when the conference winners would play the winners of other conferences. And please don't anyone suggest that this current system is intended for allow more teams to play more games. Possibly, but the motive is one of creating revenue, not giving "the kids" more experience. Back to college football at its best and away with the almighty buck!
