Which sports death would have similar impact to Michael Jackson?
Which athlete's death (hypothetically speaking, of course) might affect us like Michael Jackson? My vote's for Mike Tyson.

Michael Jackson's death shook the world, and everyone had an opinion, whether they were a fan or not.

Which athlete would have a similar impact on the sports world? Will Leitch offers 10 names. Which one do you think would have the most Jacko-like impact?

My vote is for Mike Tyson, since he's equally polarizing, and has a similarly dubious history. Like Michael Jackson, he was on top of the world when he was in his prime. Also like Michael Jackson, he was the subject of ridicule after his time was up. And just like Michael Jackson, he was a stark raving lunatic.

Michael Jordan or Brett Favre.

Tyson was certainly controlversial, but I don't think his sudden death would turn the sports world upside down. Honestly, I think most people expect that to happen.

The only people I can think of right now would be Michael Jordan, Tiger Woods, Lebron James, Muhammad Ali, and maybe Brett Favre.

It would have to be someone still playing. So that excludes Jordan. It'd have to be Kobe or Tiger or LeBron or Pujols.

I like the Tyson angle a lot.  I'll bet when the sluggers of the Steroid Era pass away, we'll be torn in a similar way.  Do we remember the events as they happened or the ending moments?

Agreed, I think to have the same level of impact it'd have to be an active player. I think Tom Brady would do it.

I'm not sure if I buy that, because Michael Jackson wasn't really an "active" musician. Sure he toured, but his prime was over a decade ago, and he hasn't made anything new or noteworthy in a LONG time.

The White Sox's Gordon Beckham? The kid has a lot of promise, but I don't think he's there yet!

How about Roger Clemens? Huge fanbase lost to a rapid decline in character. (and roids)
