Why did Eagles sign Michael Vick if they are barely using him?
Why did the Eagles bother signing Michael Vick, with all the accompanying PR headaches, if they were going to play him so little?
I don't know how many of you have been following Michael Vick this year, not that there's much to follow. He really hasn't done much of anything.

So this begs the question, why on earth did the Eagles sign him? The Eagles knew Vick wasn't going to replace Donovan McNabb, and they knew they were going to be a walking PR nightmare by signing Vick, so why do it?

Considering how Vick is being used less and less each week, I'm not really sure why they signed him anymore.

Eagles have had enough of McNabb.  They will let McNabb finish his contract as Vick gets back into shape the next few years and then they are going to can McNabb and move to Vick.  That's what I am thinking.

Im surprised Vick is not upset by this. Would you be upset if a football team doesnt use you as much as you like to?

I thought they had big plans for him.  The Raiders loss makes everything they do look bad.  If they get back to leading in games, I'm sure they'll use him more.

Vick will not be on the team next year. What about how they're using Vick gives you ANY reason to think he'll take McNabb's job? If anyone, Kolb will be the future replacement to McNabb, and that won't be anytime soon.

I agree and disagree...Vick is gone....but so is McNabb

personally i think they signed him hoping some QB's would go down and they could get some good picks out of it next year.... chad pennington went down and i was sure he would get traded to miami.... so much for being so sure.

Honestly? Because they wanted to add the possibility of another dimension to their offense. AKA, teams have to prepare as if vick might play, burn defensive practice, albeit not a lot, preparing for him.

Ignorant thinking...the Eagles LOST more fans than they gained by signing Vick. Obviously Vick has been pilloried by a rather substantial segment of the population known as animal lovers.

It's simple math
Vick + Eagles = More Attention
Eagles + More Attention = More Money.

The Eagles have already pretty much decided on Kolb taking over for McNabb, and while the more vocal Philly fans may want his head (as they have since he was brought in), the management doesn't.  Vick was picked up to make the Wildcat a viable part of their offense (which hasn't worked out) and they were hoping Vick could make some plays and make other teams interested in him after the season.  They could possibly have picked up a draft choice or two (or three, plus a crapload of money and a bunch of players if they traded him to the Raiders).  His stock has fallen, though, so it looks like so far it wasn't a very good investment on the Eagles' part.  But who knows, there's still the rest of the season to prove himself to the rest of the league.

They probably felt sorry for him. I would.

My guess is this is a diversion to get the reporters off MCNABB and put all the attention on VICK, but I don't know if it has helped yet.  The Eagles have not shown up to play this year. I see McNabb going to play for another team that supports him. Maybe he could start for the Redskins?

I think Philly is looking at Vick more as a running back. If Westbrook can't go, Vick is versatile enough to take his place in the backfield. When he finally learns that position, look out.

what are you guys talking about!? Hes a future investment! Mcnabb will be out next season and Vick and Kolb battle it out next year when Vick is back to full throttle. Duhhh!!!!! How hard was that to figure out now people?

You know..I'm an animal lover , and don't condone what Vick did, but if they can put crack heads, and gamblers inthe hall of fame, then why can't he be given a second chance at his career? He was awsome when he played with the Falcons..I say let him do his thing, and stop rehashing old news..he has to bear the cross of his past, not anyone else....

I'm not too sure what the Eagles are thinking over there in Philly. I think Reid knows McNabb isn't going to carry Philadelphia to the big game and is exploring his options. Signing Vick was not just a PR move. After all Vick was a great QB for Atlanta before the whole dog-fighting thing. I agree with Assassin i think Reid is letting McNabb finish his contract and putting Vick thro the paces in training. it sucks to ride the bench but i think he will see some playing time more in the years to come. I had a pitbull myslef and i think wut Vick did was terrible and he deserved the punishments he has received. That being said, the man payed his debt to society. That's got nothing to do with football and i look forward to seeing if he's still that same QB who took Atlanta to the to the play-offs two years in a row. Overcoming adversity is the true measure of anyone's character. I say give him the reigns and let's see how he responds.

Vick's best season is worse than McNabb's worst season. Vick was never a good QB, he was just good at running. And Vick never led the Falcons anywhere, McNabb has led the Eagles to 5 NFC title games and 1 Super Bowl. Vick was a science project to see if the Wildcat was worth the Eagles time, and its not. He will be gone after this season, and he'll be a backup for the rest of his career.
