Why the Wizards must dump Arenas' contract.

Kelly Dwyer of Ball Don't Lie has laid out a game plan that Ernie Grunfeld, GM of the Washington Wizards, should read immediately. Essentially Dwyer shows why the Wizards should shed all the big contract players they have: Antawn Jamison, Caron Butler and most importantly Gilbert Arenas. Doing so would give the Wizards room enough to completely rebuild their organization in a way unseen since the advent of the salary cap.

Gilbert Arenas in particular presents Grunfeld with a unique opportunity. The Wizards seems well within their rights to void his contract for his conduct. But Dwyer rightly points out, his behavior isn't the real reason they should do this. The real reason is Agent Zero isn't all that good any more. He has had multiple knee surgeries and while capable of a good fantasy line from time to time, his real life skills aren't there. His defense has gone European and he certainly isn't making his teammates better.

So why shouldn't the Wizards entertain offers for Jamison (whom the Cavs most certainly want) and Butler (I smell Blazers), and jettison Arenas' overvalued contract? After reading this, I can't think of a good reason.
