Eliminated from postseason contention long ago, the New York Mets already are thinking ahead to the 2010 season. And the New York Daily News speculates Angels right-hander John Lackey will be on their radar.
Lackey, who tossed 7 1/3 scoreless innings in Los Angeles' ALDS Game 1 win over Boston, will be a free agent after the season. And he is widely regarded as the best starting pitcher in the free-agent class.
Earlier this week, Mets chief operating officer Jeff Wilpon expressed a willingness to do whatever it takes to build "a championship-caliber" team.
