Yankees don't sell out ALCS games 1 and 2
Well this is embarrassing. The Yankees didn't sellout Game 1 of the ALCS, and they probably won't sellout Game 2 either.
READ MORE:
The Yankees had 49,688 people at Game 1 of the ALCS, which was probably exaggerated. The stadium seats 52,325. So it wasn't a sellout, by almost 3000 people.

Why tickets remained the morning of the game was a question no one could answer. It was the Yankees’ first ALCS home game since 2004. In the country’s biggest city. Not on a school or work night. Showcasing perhaps the best Yankees team this decade.

And guess what, they probably won't sell out again tonight either.

There are still lots of tickets. Not just ones from scalpers or secondary-market sources, either. Tickets on the Yankees’ official site, sold through its official gouger (Ticketmaster), from the cheap seats to the stupidly expensive.

So what's the problem? Well, some people blamed the cold weather, I'll blame the fact that even this stadium's cheap seats are way too expensive. Plus the stadium sucks. It may have cost $1.5 billion, but it's sterile as hell.

But any time the Yankees are embarrassed, like having their $161 million pitcher throwing a playoff game in front of empty seats by home plate, I like it.

Step 1: $2,000 seats
Step 2: ?
Step 3: Profit!

Well, we can be certain the Mets aren't drawing any attention away from the Yankees.

I was at the game last night and there was a section in the Rightfield that was empty. What a joke come on Yankee fans support your team.

The scalpers dream. The world's most popular baseball team located in a brand new, state of the art stadium, in what could be considered the greatest city in the world filled with some of the most passionate fans in the world. Playing in it's league's championship series, huge stars and expensive free agents all going up against the only team that has always had success in the postseason against them.

And they can't sell out these games.

I just did a quick search for tickets and StubHub has retired all of the listings because it's almost gametime. So I went to Ticketmaster to buy tickets straight from the Yankees and yes, both the expensive seats and even the "cheap" $48 seats and tons more are still available. That is sad.

I think the situation is deeper than any of this.  Baseball should be at the world series by now, I think most folks have moved on to football.  Sad but true,  even a rabid fan like me is ready to move past baseball.  Maybe this will get Selig to throw away this WBC folly, shorten the seasonto 154 games, and make the All-Star game an exhibition again.  November baseball--C'MON!

Answer: shorten back to 156 games and start the season on March 31 NO MATTER WHAT day it is....much better to be playing snow games in the first two weeks than it snowing out playoff games.

I agree with everything you've said, but I do like the WBC.  They should do something with that to maybe replace the All-Star game altogether, and it would also help cut down the games if they had to take a month off in the middle of summer for the WBC, just like hockey does for the Winter Olympics.
