Roger Federer is the greatest tennis player of all time based on his 15 grand slams titles.
Look at the advances in technology though not only in the way the game is refereed but , in everything from the shoes pros wear now, and how much more effective they are at producing a better game, but even the clothes offer a more comfortable and productive play than years past.
Hell, the tennis racquet alone has been revolutionized time and time again in the past few decades, a sweet spot is like 3-4 times the size of what it was 30+ years ago, and the racquets differences in weight and size are just examples of what else has changed to make better statistics, and more wins possible.
With that said I will go with someone less pampered with modern tech.
Rod Laver
Worlds #1 player for 6 years in a row
only player in history to win all four grand slam singles in the same year, TWICE
1962 : 21 ameture wins (record)
23 year career- cmon now
A few of those accomplishments are considered enough to be considered the best ever, based on single achievements alone...
Its much easier to break records these days, if you consider equipment that triples or quadruples performance of its counterpart 30-40 years prior.
Rafa ,
Why because he a world class act in human kindness and sportmanship. I like Federer! But when he cried after losing his title to Rafa and his tantrum at the Austrailian open he was a disgrace.
#2 He only held the #1 title for years. He his human!
Yes! Federer you had to lose one day. Rafa had to apologize to Federer for beating him. How Sad was that!On Rafa's day of Glory. It was just wrong. Man up Federer!
Pete Sampras in his day and time.
All things considered you have to give the nod to Federer. We can factor in new racquet technology training methods and facilities and all but still the guy beats everybody most of the time. Who knows what Rod Laver or some of the other top players would have done in this era? Pete Sampras would certainly have to be mentioned and as much as I'd like to see him as the top guy.i still think its FED.
don't go scratching you brains...what matters is what the real greats like laver, borg and mcenroe think is the greatest player of all time..and most know who is that...this debate could go on forever...shrug it off..
I think roger is ahead of everyone else.Though Rod Laver is
not far behind, the consistency roger has maintained over
the past 6 years is incredible n unprecedented
I have seen a few say that rod laver is the greatest of all time.Common,we have'nt seen him play.We just heard about him.But you have seen roger play and hell,he plays like a genius. He moves like a ballerina on the court, brings so much grace to the game that you stop and think,is he human? He is so simple yet perfect, has the best forehand, incredible serve and a very good backhand. He has accomplished everything there is.even rod laver was not as consistent as roger was(this is just based on figures).ROGER IS THE GREATEST PLAYER OF ALL TIME.
in the open era,he has no competition for the award.
