Another upset, and this time, John Calipari called it. He watched the tape.

#13 Cleveland State 84, #4 Wake Forest 69
Cleveland State was leading this one from start to finish. Quite frankly, Wake Forest never had a chance. Cedric Jackson had 19 points, 7 rebounds and 8 assists for the Vikings, while Norris Cole and J'Nathan Bullock added 22 and 21 points, respectively. Wake Forest's Jeff Teague didn't contribute as much as he usually does, and ended up with only 10 points. That's 9 points below his season average, and was a big reason for Wake's defeat. Cleveland State will face Arizona, who was another upset winner.

#9 Siena 74, #8 Ohio State 72 (2OT)
Siena pulled off a slight shocker against Ohio State, becoming the first mid-major of the tournament to win a game against a BCS conference school. It took 2 overtimes to decide it, but the Saints eventually won out, thanks to Ronald Moore's 3-pointer with 3.9 seconds left. Moore also hit a shot late in the first OT period to extend the game, and contributed with 6 assists and 3 steals. Siena has the unenviable task of playing overall #1 seed Louisville in the round of 32.

#12 Wisconsin 61, #5 Florida State 59 (OT)
Another OT thriller, and another 12/5 upset. Florida State was dominant in the first half, jumping out to a 12 point lead and only allowing 19 points to the Badgers. The tables were turned later in the game, however, when Wisconsin tied it up in regulation and took over in OT. Trevon Hughes made a 3-point play with 2 seconds left to give the Badgers the W. They play Xavier next.

#2 Michigan State 77, #15 Robert Morris 62
Nothing to see here, folks. Just another #2 seed beating up on a 15th seed. This was the most uneventful and unsurprising game out of the later bunch. They'll play USC next.

Here are links to the rest of the recaps for the 1st round. Enjoy:

Tell me about it, I've missed 7 games in my bracket but 4 of those 7 are ACC... Wake, FSU, Clemson and BC.

So long as I've still got Duke, I guess I shouldn't gripe!

But as far as upsets go, is it really *that* big of an upset when a 9 beats an 8? I don't really count that one, but the fact that the game was in OH does give it a bit more of an upset quotient.

While being a 2 seed is much more preferable, its kind of fun being the 12 seed upset.  Hopefully we make it one more round.  Go Badgers!

Freaking Wake Forest!!  I swear that team is so bipolar!!  I said it earlier they have the talent to make the final four, and also can flop and lose in the first round like they did.   Thank you wake forest for screwing up my brackets!!  Clemson, Florida St, thank you for embarrassing me!!!  I talk alot of *hit about how good the ACC is, and now a have to put a foot in my mouth.

I hope so too, beat Xavier cause Wisconsin would be an easier matchup for Pitt.

Oh and USC over BC was one of those upsets that wasn't really an upset.

Siena was predictable...Wake was a major loss-its going to mess up peoples brackets this time!

Maybe Wake should have got Cleveland State to wear Carolina Blue....That color seems to make them mad.

I so called the Cleveland State upset. =).

I went 22-10 in the first round though. I went 1-3 in 8-9 and 5-12 games.

DeJaun Blair would definitely destroy us, but if we get there I'll be more than happy withour season.

Hey, I wrote about Cleveland St beating WFU.  WFU was outcoached, and not prepared to play.  CSU was qucker than WFU, and took WFU about 15 mintues to go to a zone, it worked by finishing the half on a 9-2 run, but never went back to the zone in the 2nd half.  Also, Teague was not a PG, and did not have the ball in his hands.  As a result, it effected the entire offense.  If it was not for James Johnson, WFU would have lost by 30 points.

Whats sad is that a lot of WFU fans saw this coming.  Some did not want to admit it, until it actually happened, others saw this coming over the last few weeks.

Yeah considering you were sweating it out with the rest of the state of Wisconsin wondering if the Badgers would even make the tourney, a trip to the Sweet 16 would be a huge accomplishment for an otherwise iffy season.

What's nuts is Wake has 3 guys who could go in the NBA Lottery and they lost to Cleveland St. How does that happen? Horrible coaching, is the answer.

You nailed on the head. Bad coaching.  Our head coach has no control over the team, and they quit on him about 1/4 of the way through the ACC Season.  Something happened between this team, most fans believe it occured when Smith was moved to PG.  Anyway, you can see it through their body actions.  There were times during the ACC Season were they just did not show up, aka Miami, and times at the end of games were they just did not care enough to win, aka at both GTech and NCSU.  Also, we were horrible on the offensive end throughout the season, to be honest we had to offense, and in the NCAA Tournament, teams that succeed (other than defense) run a set offense with great guard play, not a transtion offense where the players stand around when it becomes a half court game.  Its quite sad to see that much talent go to waste, I mentioned before that this is easily the most talented WFU team I have ever watched (over three ACC Champion Teams that had Childress, Duncan, and Josh Howard on them).
