Players need to be ready to pass, shoot or dribble ... fans need to know the scores, stats and rumors. Your daily roundup of last night's action in the Association:

What You Need to Know

"Only" 43 for Kobe, but 5 in a row for Lakers
Kobe's streak is over, after he "only" scored 43 points last night (along with 9 boards, no assists, and 7 turnovers). However, the Lakers squeaked out a 115-113 win over the Warriors for their season high fifth straight win. Lamar Odom also had a huge night for LA, scoring 24 points and bringing down an incredible 19 rebounds. It's a bigger loss for Golden State, who are now a game and a half behind the idle Clippers.

Gordon beats the clock; Bulls beat Pacers
First, Ben Gordon hit a buzzer beater to end the third quarter. That was the warmup act. With 2.8 seconds remaining, Gordon hit a fadeaway (over Mike Dunleavy) that gave the Bulls a 92-90 over Indiana. Not surprisingly, Gordon led the Bulls with 31. The win clinched Chicago a .500 season, which means absoultely nothing. The Pacers, meanwhile, continue to lose. At some point, it should keep them out of playoff contention (they're still only a half game out). I think.

Mike Bibby takes over and upsets Suns Vintage Bibby appeared in Sacramento last night. Bibby scored 37 and the Kings shocked Phoenix 107-100. In addition to his 37, Bibby hit a franchise record nine three pointers, including two in the final 1:15 to seal the deal. Spurs fans are understandbly happy for the Suns loss, but they're still 3 games back with 13 to play. That's still quite a bit to make up in a short amount of time.

Good call by Reynolds. This draft is pretty loaded up top. Another year of proving his ball handling skills and continued high scoring and he could easily be a Top 10.

DJ White is a first rounder right now, but I think he should stay in hopes of being one of the top big men next year. White just isn't consistent enough. Needs to get stronger. White should be 20 and 10 every night. He's pretty much Brandon Haygood right now.

I would have put Kobe in my top list, but due to the fact he had 7 turnovers...kinda does it for me.

No, but its worth pointing out. If you have the ball enough times in a game you're bound to lose it sometimes.

That's one reason I don't like Kobe... everyone is all up in his grill saying he's the best, we love him...etc....but anyone that gets the ball that many times will have 50+ points sometimes.

From what I hear around here and elsewhere very few people say he is the best or that they love him.  Everybody tries to create excuses for why he isn't.  Jemele Hill actually has an article on this today.  While she kind of goes over the line by saying he is better than MJ, she has solid points.  The only reason I can come up with for why Kobe is really hated is that he is the only guy that can challenge (note that I only said challenge) MJ, and nobody wants to see that.

Anyway, heres the Jemele Hill article if you're interested in reading it.  http://sports.espn.go.com/espn/page2/story?page=hill/070326&sportCat=nba

I'm not saying he's a bad player by all means. He's a great player. I just don't like him. If he's gonna take 35 shots a game, he'll hit 50 points just by shooting 50% and making a few freethrows. As far as I'm concerned, he's a selfish player, which is why I dislike him.

And you no doubt have every right to that opinion.  I just think its kinda funny that Jordan can average 30 points for his career with "only" 5.3 APG, and gets called a great player and great teammate (who just happened to punch out two of his teammates and run out of town one of his coaches) and Kobe can average 24.5 PPG and 4.5 APG (both of which are somewhat skewed due to his first couple of seasons) and be a horrible teammate (who helped run out of town a coach who would later choose to return to coach him).  I'm not saying Kobe is perfect by any means, but he really hasn't done anything different than Jordan to this point of his career.  Now I'm not saying he is better or even equal to Jordan either, but he is the only guy in the league who will ever be able to challenge him in his career.

Yes, that's true... I'm not a fan of Jordan either... Now, if we wanna talk greats, then Karl Malone and John Stockton! lol

Michael Jordan was also loved because people feel that he single-handedly led his team to titles. Kobe has shown a decided inability to win without Shaq. Is there anyone who thinks that Jordan couldn't win in his prime, no matter WHO was on his team?
